Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Kashmir: A Grand Bargain?

But the thing is, if there is insecurity and lack of governance in Afghanistan, i am sure non of you guys will get what you want. So, instead, all parties need to work for betterment of situation over there.

Of course.

I am not justifying the conflict, simply pointing out why Afghanistan's location will make it the center of attention for a long time to come. Of course, it could work out the other way by everybody competing for goodwill in Afghanistan. But, for that to happen, Afghanistan itself would have to be united and that can only be achieved by the Afghans themselves.

A united Afghanistan can force foreign powers to compete for its favors; a divided Afghanistan will be exploited by everyone else.

Who are "we". You're obviously indian and dont know about the situation in Afghanistan and Kashmir well. You are just repeating what other of your fellow indians want to hear.

Taliban are in Afghanistan. TTP is not the original Taliban it was just formed in 2007.

Once America leaves Afghanistan, we will do what we were doing pre-2001. Giving indian army headache in Indian Occupied Kashmir :)

Don't fool yourselves.. Taliban already blowing up your cities and citizens. and they are starting new war against your milittary again as per new news...
what anymore headache you will give it to our Army.. Man it's a lost case of Pak.. you even dont have the money to support any curse.

what is the possibility of war between pakistan and india about kashmir?

Its not happening on near future.. Pakistan doesnt have a single money to sustain war.. how can you start a war with a bankrupt economy..
Then if they start a war with India again.. then Damnn sure you will not see any Pakistan in the map again.

I think we need to forget about Kashmir and Afghanistan period. We just need to seal Afghanistan border effectively and station enough troops there. What we need is internal stability so our economy can grow.Cash can solve all problems.Failed Taliban style Pakistan is the most favorable option for India where as a prosperous economically successful Pakistan is a big threat for India.

.
We don't need to give up Kashmir to any so-called bargain.

Then what would you do? Would you wage a war against India, an country that is eight times your size or give 'Moral' and 'Diplomatic' support, that has become an synonymous with supporting terrorism past 9/11. Either way it is a lost cause for Pakistan. Pakistan has to come to terms on Kashmir that it would never become a part of Pakistan. It is time Pakistan put Pakistan first instead of putting Kashmir first. The article seems reasonable and a way forward for all countries in this region.

.
Why is every one thinking that they own Afgan, The Indian presence in Afgan is to train them on self governance and to train them in armed forces and security both internal and external and once our job is done and they no longer need us the Indian presence will be reduced and only our embassy staff will stay back.

you are all wrong, India needs a stable Pakistan to sustain peace and promote growth in the region. A stressed Pakistan is a disaster and so is a stressed India or China, so its good for all three governments to be free of threat from each other and start in the right foot for a better future

Pakistan has always neglected the most critical aspect of the Kashmir war: the propaganda front. Throughout our history, the Pakistani establishment has been utterly incompetent in appreciating the importance of soft power and global propaganda. That was and should be our focus.

The need becomes all the more urgent now, not just for Kashmir, but for Pakistan's own image.

But here too India is far ahead of Pakistan. Open any western media, India is portrayed as a saviour, while China is demonized and I don't have to explain about Pakistan's image.

However, what made to think that India would relent in its portrayal as a saviour? India is in fact investing more and more in soft power

I think this exact article was debated some time back. Bottom line, any deal proposed by the Americans is already suspect.

India will be booted from Afghanistan once NATO leaves. We don't need to give up Kashmir to any so-called bargain.

Regarding the bolded part, it is all right from your POV, but what if Pakistan is compelled to??

I am talking especially of recent cooling of tensions between us, it has been a concerted effort on various fronts both regional and international. Does not this mean that we are coming to some sort of agreement?? Realistically speaking Pakistan has suffered economically and morally for more than a decade by now, I highly doubt that it will gear up for another challenge in Afghanistan so soon, this ofcourse is my feeling, the previous ones are facts.

India being booted from Afghanistan, is what you expect but what if stakeholders in Pakistan are already settling for a joint role with India in this region?? I will expect everybody to disagree with me on this grand statement and it could be called an over shot at this point of time, but i expect something on this line is going to happen in future seeing current trends.

Pakistan doesn't need to have an image war with anyone, we don't need western media moguls like murdoch to come and buy our tv stations and influence the beautiful image of Pakistan.

Pakistan has suffered economically and morally for more than a decade by now

When did India get any morals? Illegally occupying Kashmir without the will of the Kashmiris and against the UN resolutions is morally incorrect ! ! ! Give Kashmir to the people of Kashmir, let them have a referendum to determine what they want

The Indian presence in Afgan is to train them on self governance and to train them in armed forces and security

No body can train the people of Afghanistan, these people are natural fighters and can never be defeated. The moguls tried, the soviets tried and now NATO is trying, none have succeeded. You think India will succeed ??

Would you wage a war against India, an country that is eight times your size o

Firstly it's not the quantity that matters it's quality.

Secondly, Pakistan will not be alone. Pakistan if it goes to war with India will have the support of Afghanistan and China, maybe even Iran. It won't be just Kashmir that is liberated, that's some food for thought for you

Of course India won't relent, but we have to start competing on this front sooner or later. It has been the real battlefield for some time; the Pakistani elite just hasn't realized it yet.

Pakistan doesn't need to have an image war with anyone, we don't need western media moguls like murdoch to come and buy our tv stations and influence the beautiful image of Pakistan.

It's not our choice. The media war is forced on us all guns blazing. Either we fight back or we take bullets until we die.

You are right that there is some serious game afoot. Allegedly even the Pak army is on board this new relationship with India. It's all very interesting...

There are falsehoods everywhere i.e. the western media portrays all Muslims as terrorists, it portrays Muslim women as oppressed, India is made out to be progressing when in fact the gap between rich and poor is ever increasing. We should invest on our knowledge not on the way we want other people to see us.

We should invest on our knowledge not on the way we want other people to see us.

Why not do both? Other countries do.

Image management is essential for diplomacy, attracting foreign investment, and achieving our objectives around the world.

.
Regardless of Kashmir, the big game between India, China, Russia and the West will be about control of the CARs and India needs Afghanistan to get to the CARs. NATO wants India in Afghanistan; China and Pakistan do not.

You have no understanding of Indian interest. We are not in Afghanistan for denying Pakistan anything. We are in Afghanistan to make sure Afghanistan is not anti - India like it was under the Taliban. We have no other interest IMO.

 Kid, first wake up from your dream. In the world of today each country fights for its interests. You will be standing alone in a war with India.
