Afghanistan move up of India and Pakistan in FIFA rankings

Congrats afghanistan.

I saw the afghan team players on wiki, quite a lot of them plays for european clubs. Other south asian nations should follow suit

Actually they are Afghans living in foreign countries. You can find Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani players in European clubs. Pakistan too have a lot of players like that. Dont know about BD. India doesnt have as we dont have dual citizenship. Bob Houghton tried a lot for Michael Chopra but he was not prepared to surrender British passport.

I wonder why ICC have limited countries policy...?

just see the football ranking its 208 countries & ICC ranking always have 10 countries competing each others, why is that so?

ICC have more than 10 members but those members have not given status of Test playing nations. Their level is still too compete with their big brothers. And it is difficult to make them play against stronger teams due to economic reason. Who will be interested (viewers as well as sponsors) for PAkistan vs Brunei match.

than ICC should learn how Fifa solved this kinda matters i mean we need more n more countries in cricket, & how can u say tht there is no talent in brunei? we just need to have the siad kinda matches more ofthen who know they upset Pakistan & get the world focus on them...

It is same in case of football. Can we get the opportunity to play against Spain or Brazil or even Turkey? For that we have to qualify for World Cup or Olympic by playing in the region and qualifying step by step. Same process is applied in Cricket also. The weaker teams play for qualification and best of them are allowed to play World Cup. As an example BD got the test status after making few upsets.

Nepal and Bangladesh managed valuable points during World Cup qualifiers. Because of their poor ranking both of them had to play an extra round (qualifier of the qualifier). Nepal got East Timor and BD got Pakistan to face. They won both -home and away matches and secured a lot of points. FIFA ranking system have more points for WC qualifiers than any other tournament , three times more than a friendly match and more point for win than a draw. Surprisingly , in the equation the ranking of the opponent doesnt matter much. Other teams from South Asia like India and Maldives got UAE and Iran to face. India lost the away match 0-3 and drew the home match 2-2. Nepal is still cashing on that victory against E Timor despite getting hammered by Jordon 0-9 in the next round.

I'm not sure about that, Nepal always gives a tough fight, maybe their practice
sessions at higher altitudes has some sort of advantage against the neighbours.

About BD (151), we did win over Lebanon(lost 1) and so it wasn't all smooth and shiny.

One thing I'm curious though, in the 90's average South Asian teams
were in much better condition then what it is now. The positions were
mostly around 100.

It was always going to be a huge ask to include qualifying tourneys for the ODI World cup. But the t20 World cup provides the best opportunity to do so. It's perfectly poised to have a qualifying round for regions like football does.
But I suspect the ICC is afraid of the possibility that some test playing nations may be knocked out in the qualifying rounds of the World cup itself.

hmm yeah they got it after beating Pakistan, but agian that happened when they played with Pakistan, but atleast weaker teams should play with each others or ICC should have some big tournaments which includes only weaker teams to give them some light internationaly or there should be complete ranking by ICC which includes every team frm top to bottom not just 15 teams....

After breaking of Soviet Union a lot of countries join in. Same after breaking of Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia....And standard of football in these countries are much higher. Besides, smaller African nations are playing more international matches than they used to do...All these are pushing our ranking to the end of the list.

Very impressive for a war torn country, congrats Afghanistan. As for the Indian and Pakistani football teams, well dont know what to say about them really. Just embarrassing.

Well done Afghanistan.Bangladesh has the wildest supporters of football yet our team fails miserably.
If i am not wrong Man U was supposed to open some kind of training academy in Pakistan !! Any progress on that ?

.
I hope they get rid of this cricket and just concentrate on Football !

I wish Pakistan would promote Soccer/Football in Pakhtoonkhwa and Balochistan as Soccer is quite popular in these two Provinces and need encouragement and resources.
