Trump: Afghanistan is the 'Harvard University of terrorism'

Betsy Klein

August 20, 2019

President Donald Trump continued to say Tuesday that the US is talking to the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban and he is "looking at different things" in the region.

Speaking at the White House, Trump lamented that US involvement in the country for 18 years, which he described as more of a "police force," is "ridiculous," and repeated a claim that the US "could win that war in a week if we wanted to" but that he does not "want to kill 10 million people, 10 million Afghans ... because that's what would have to happen and I'm not looking to do that."

Trump said the US is "bringing some of our troops back but we have to have a presence."

The area "does seem to be the Harvard University of terrorism," Trump said.

"We've been a peacekeeper there, in a way, for 19 years and at a certain point you have to say that's long enough," he said, describing visiting wounded veterans at Walter Reed military hospital who have served in Afghanistan.

He said the US is "negotiating -- we'll see what happens," but that the Taliban could stop unrest in the region "very easily."

Trump met with top national security advisers last week at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, to review a US-Taliban peace plan that could end America's longest-running war.

The State Department announced on Tuesday that its Taliban negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad was traveling to Doha and Afghanistan to continue discussions with the Taliban and Afghan government, respectively, on the peace process.

The plan is expected to formalize a significant withdrawal of US forces -- from about 15,000 troops to 8,000 or 9,000 -- and enshrine official commitments by the Taliban to counterterrorism efforts in Afghanistan, according to multiple sources familiar with the plan.

While the deal will include other elements, including a US-Taliban ceasefire, it has at least one crucial omission: It is not expected to secure a commitment by the Taliban to hold their fire on the Afghan people or the Afghan military, according to sources familiar with the talks.

The Taliban do not recognize the Afghan government, which has not been involved in the talks the US has been holding with the extremist Islamic movement in Qatar.

I don't find the tarnishing of reputation of Muslim nation to be funny.

If Muslim brother and sisters would want to back stab us then I want each and every person in this world to humiliate them

In fact I would love to see every country in the world to bomb Afghanistan

They side with the indian KUFFAR, commit terrorism against Pakistan, insult Islam and want to destroy us. They deserve damnation.

Lol.

Where are those fking ultra nationalist afghan*** whose nationalism and national pride only wakes up when dealing with Pakistan.

Here you go, POTUS just called your country Harvard of terrorism. Where are likes of Amarullah Saleh hiding? Lol

af-ghands are the most worthless and inferior people on earth. They know it too. They are KUFFAR of the highest order too.

And likewise they make same or similar accusations towards you. Or other accusations. Either way, there is Pakistani general public and Afghani general public. Politics aside, they need to be good and conciliatory towards each other. If they consider themselves as Muslims.

Not all of them side with India. Likewise they accuse you of supporting terrorism in their country. Your third accusation is baseless and not even gonna say anything about last thing you said.

Bottom line, good Muslims in Afghanistan and Pakistan know that interests of nation's have pinned them against each other but they are better Muslims than that and above that to wish good for their Muslim brothers and sisters across the border.

Those who value interests over obeying God and working to end these disputes and ridiculing of one another are the ones who will recieve damnation and not the other way around.

I don't care about their accusations. I am not the one trying to snatch more than 50% of Afghan territory. I know that

Whatever happened to Afghanistan or is happening even today. it is all their own handiwork. I can't be good to a snake. That is what Islam tells me to do and this is what human nature is

Well you see , all Muslim nation's that dispute with each both swear to the teeth that their allegations are true and not other way around. It's nothing new, Algeria/Morocco, Qatar/Saudi, Saudi/Iran, etc.... I am very cautious to take these accusations at heart and side with one side over another unless it is very clear. And by taking guidance from Allah by exploring Islam and taking the Prophets example, you can decipher that the best way forward with these matters is to encourage an end to our disputes and wish the best for another.

Take the extra step like the Prophets did. I know deep down in your heart you are good person like most people here but sometimes these disputes get the better of us. Take the extra step and May Allah reward you for it and make you with the Prophets in the Jannat.

The Prophet (PBUH) even demolished the Masjid e Zarrar because it was created for fitna among muslims. These Afghans are racist and are hypocrites. They are ungrateful snakes. They call muslims of Pakistan daalkhor while sucking up to daalkhor hindus of India. They even change their faith like that King Amanullah to get acceptance from foreigners

As said in a hadeeth "momin aik hi sorakh sai 2 baar nahi dasta". I can't trust these snakes anymore. They have backs stabbed us far too many times. May Allah humiliate them more and more

Do you know what Muslims did to Banu Qureeza when they broke their oath.

These Afghans have done more horrible things. They have bitten the hands that have fed them, sheltered them , treated them as their own, swear, I am witness to the time when people in Pakistan used to look out for Afghans in need and help them, ignoring our own people. From Karzai to Amarullah Saleh, they all were given refugee in Pakistan, and look how they paid back our generosity. Every single terrorist activity in which we lose our citizens is either planned from Afghan soil or Afghan nationals are involved.

There comes a time when your generosity is taken as your weakness. We cannot allow our home to be burned down and our people to suffer, nothing in Islam will allow that. We take Pakistan as a citadel of Islam, and it cannot be allowed to be damaged from within, let the enemies of Pakistan and Islam try their luck from outside.

af-ghands are the most worthless and inferior people on earth. They know it too. They are KUFFAR of the highest order too.

I want to ask them as to why they dont demand their poster boys like Amarullah Saleh to respond to the humiliations that trump is throwing towards their "proud" nation.

Can you imagine if IK has said anything remotely similar? All these rats will be out gun blazing.

Fvck Afghanistan. May they suffer. Zero sympathy for Afghans who sell their daughters to Indians.

May Allah(SWT) help the people of Afghanistan achieve relief and receive guidance from the Lord to make their country safe and prosperous. And curse those who ridicule them wrongfully as that is not a characteristic of a Muslim.

But isn't it true that Afghanistan is a hub for terrorists?

Salaam

@Falcon29 you make good points.

I don't think the interests of Afghanistani and Pakistani people are at odds. I think it is the interests of few people that bring about this hostility.

The interests of Muslims are in cooperation and reconciliation. Just as the Europeans realised after so many wars and death that their future lay in cooperation otherwise they wouldn't be able to face the other powers of the world individually.

Muslims too must realise that without cooperation, we stand a much lower chance to live honourably in this world.

If we remain bickering amongst ourselves, we will remain humiliated and oppressed.

May Allah give us the foresight to see beyond, what are in the grand scheme of things, petty differences and recognise the true potential of cooperation.
