Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of air strikes ahead of leaders' talks

Reuters
KABUL (Reuters) - The Afghan government on Thursday accused Pakistan of air strikes in the Afghan province of Kunar, which borders Pakistan, causing “huge financial damage”.

The tension comes ahead of a scheduled visit to Kabul on Friday by Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, when he and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani are expected to discuss cooperation on stopping militant attacks.

Pakistani jets dropped four bombs on Wednesday evening in Kunar’s Dangam district, according to a statement from Afghanistan’s ministry of foreign affairs. It did not elaborate on the damage and made no mention of any casualties.

“Afghanistan warns that continuing violations of international norms ... will have further consequences on the relations between the two countries,” the ministry said.

Pakistan’s foreign ministry and military did not respond to requests for comment.

Afghanistan’s Western-backed government has long accused Pakistan of harboring Afghan Taliban insurgents, a charge that Islamabad denies.

Islamabad, in turn, accuses Afghanistan of not doing enough to eradicate Pakistani Taliban militants, many of whom are based in Afghanistan and mostly carry out attacks inside Pakistan.

. . .
It's most likely this airstrike was discussed with the Afghan leadership a few days ago when PM Abbasi paid a one day visit.

India should take note. It'll be their turn if they don't stop the cruelty in Indian Occupied Kashmir.

. .
The difference between the real surgical strikes and the bollywood produced film.
Pakistan conducts the air strikes and takes down many ISIS sanctuaries and leadership i.e. top commanders under the protection of NDS and NATO..... but Pakistan keeps quite while Kabul govt cries like a baby. That's the real strike so the victim is complaining. :flame::flame:

Now the Bollywood style sir jee kal parson strike, Indian media claims indian forces conducted the surgical strikes and Pakistan says Really!!! when & where? ...show us some evidence and they just shy away...we can't because its secret :sarcastic::sarcastic:

I doubt a couple of mudhuts count as "huge financial damage"

Why Afghans are complaining in first place?
They want Pakistan to "do more" against terrorism, so Pakistan is doing that.
What international norms?
Afghans dont accept Durand Line? do they? Area beyond that is mainly not in their control? Is it?
So Pakistan is not breaking any law, if its doing "hot pursuit" against foreign funded terrorists. Afghans should support Pakistan effort.

Lastly, imho, its a good time, that Pakistan seriously thought out to form a buffer zone ahead of Durand Line. 10 to 20 kms deep. Wakhan corridor should be annexed.

It's good. Once it started , it will never stop. After few months Afghan govt will be used to these strikes.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal on Thursday said Pakistan rejects the ‘baseless’ Afghan allegations of airspace violations and air raids inside Afghan territory by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

“Pakistan urges Afghanistan to focus on taking effective counter-terrorism actions including plugging of large gaps existing along the Afghan side of Pakistan-Afghanistan border to prevent the targeting of Pakistani civilians and security forces by terrorists from Afghan soil,” the press release said.

Faisal also said that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met and discussed the entire gamut of Pak-Afghan relations including peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan, counter-terrorism, the return of Afghan refugees, bilateral trade and regional connectivity. They agreed on following key principles to operationalise the working groups under Afghanistan – Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS).

APAPPS binds the two countries on certain points; Pakistan will support Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliations, both countries commit to avoid territorial and aerial violations, they are to jointly undertake effective actions against fugitives and irreconcilable elements.

One of the points of the APAPPS is also that both countries will avoid “public blame game.”

Pakistan also rejected callous and heartless attempts of certain sections of the Afghan media to exploit the bombing at the Kunduz seminary to cast baseless aspersions and insinuations against Pakistan.

“This attempt was made by segments that do not want good relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” the press release read.
