At least 14 militants were killed in separate airstrikes conducted in southern and western parts of the country, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said.

According a statement by MoI, at least 12 of the militants were killed in Bala Bolok district of Farah prvince on Friday.

The statement further added that 2 militants were killed in a separate airstrike conducted in Nahr-e-Saraj district of Helmand province.

MoI further added that several weapons, ammunition, and explosives were also destroyed in the airstrikes.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the report so far.

Helmand is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in its various districts and frequently conduct insurgency activities.

However, Farah is relatively safe as compared to southern Helmand although insurgency activities by Taliban and other militants are often reported in this province.

Reports emerged earlier suggesting that the loyalists of ISIIL terrorist group are attempting to expand foothold from this province.

A major operation involving the air and ground forces of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) is underway in southern Uruzgan province with the local officials saying at least 18 militants were killed in the latest raids.

The officials further added that the operations were launched two days ago and are still being conducted in the restive parts of the province to clear from the militants presence.

Provincial police chief Wali Jan Sarhadi said the militants were killed during the operations conducted in the vicinity of Tarinkot city, the provincial capital of Uruzgan.

He said at least 25 militants were also wounded during the same operations.

There are no reports available regarding the casualties of the Afghan security forces and possible casualties of the civilians.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Uruzgan is among the relatively volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its districts.

The militants are often conducting insurgency activities by carrying roadside bombings, target killings, and coordinated attacks on the government compounds.

The Afghan forces have stepped up counter-terrorism operations against the group in this province after they launched a major attack to take control of the strategic Tarinkot city earlier in September.

Scores of additional forces including special forces of the Afghan national army were deployed to the area as the group managed to take the war in the outskirts of the city.

According to the local security officials, the airstrike was conducted in Haska Mina district, using an unmanned aerial vehicle.

The officials further added that the militants were targeted in Langari Kand area.

This comes as a commander of the terror group who was actively recruiting for the terror group was killed during an operation in Khogyani district last week.

A top commander of the Taliban group was killed during an operation in northern Parwan province of Afghanistan, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Monday.

“Yesterday, Afghan National Civil Order Police launched a special operation in the Siah Gard district of Parwan province, in which a Taliban’s key member Mullah Naiem Kor known as Umaduddin was killed,” a statement by MoI said.

The statement further added that three other armed Taliban militants were wounded as well during the operation.

“Mullah Naiem was involved in many terrorist and destructive activities in this district and other areas of Parwan province,” MoI added.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Parwan is among the relatively volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgents are actively operating in a number of its remote districts.

Earlier, the Afghan intelligence operatives arrested a key member of the group who was involved in rocket attack on Bagram airbase and other insurgency activities.

The Taliban militants group claimed responsibility for a deadly attack inside Bagram airbase that left at least 5 people dead and 16 others wounded.

The attack last month took place after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives inside the base.

Two masked attackers pulled Mohammad Nasir Mudaser out of his car and shot him dead.
Afghan officials said gunmen shot and killed a local radio station’s chief in eastern Logar province.

Salim Salleh, the provincial governor’s spokesman, said on Friday that two masked attackers opened fire on Mohammad Nasir Mudaser’s car as he was driving back home from work.

They then pulled him out and killed him.

The attack happened on Thursday in the province’s Mohammad Agha district, where Mudaser had been running the local radio station called Paygham Mili since 2002.

The station’s news anchor, Mohammad Zubair Helham, said the killing was “sad news” for all five journalists employed at the station but that “it will not stop our radio program.”

According to the local security officials, the police chief of Obe district, Sher Aqa Alokozay, survived the attack but a policeman sustained injuries.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said late in October that the mission has documented 8,397 conflict-related civilian casualties (2,562 deaths and 5,835 injured) between 1 January and 30 September, representing a one per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2015.

Ground engagements remained the leading cause of civiliancasualties, followed by suicide and complex attacks, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

UNAMA further added that the anti-Government Elements caused 61 per cent of civilian casualties – 1,569 civilian deaths and 3,574 injured (5,143 total civilian casualties).

At least three people were killed and three others sustained injuries in an attack by gunmen in Kabul late on Saturday.

A security official in Paghman district, where the incident took place, said the gunmen managed to flee the area after the attack.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has said a senior Taliban leader was arrested during an operation in central Logar province while at least 60 others were killed during the counter-terrorism operations.

“Yesterday evening, a senior armed Taliban member named Shaista Mohammad was arrested when Afghan National Police launched a special operation in Qala-e-Ghafar village, Pul-e-Alam City capital of Logar province,” MoI said in a statement.

The statement further added that Shaista Mohammad was involved in many terrorist and destructive activities in Kharwar, Charkh and Azra districts of Logar province.

In another statement, MoI said “In past 24 hours, Afghan National Defense and Security launched 22 Counter-Terrorism joint operations to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.”

According to MoI, the operations were conducted in Kabul, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Zabul, Oruzgan, Helmand, Sar-e-Pul, Faryab and Kunduz provinces. “As a result 60 armed militants were killed, 18 wounded and 10 others were arrested by Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.”

Afghan National Police also discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition during the operations.

A relatively heavy explosion was heard in Kabul city earlier today, leaving several people dead or wounded.

The incident took place in the vicinity of 6th police district of the city close to a mosque in Dasht-e-Barchi area in West of Kabul.

Eyewitnesses in the area are saying that a suicide bomber targeted a vehicle of an Afghan lawmaker in the vicinity of Dasht-e-Barchi area.

However, a security official said a magnetic bomb was planted in the vehicle of MP Fakuri Biheshti’s vehicle who was wounded in the attack and his bodyguard was killed.

The source further added that several other people have also been killed or wounded in the attack, citing preliminary information.

MP Biheshti is representing the central Bamyan province in the Lower House of the Parliament, Wolesi Jirga, and he was reportedly on his way towards the parliament building when his vehicle was targeted.

No group including the Taliban insurgents has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

However, the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group have claimed responsibility behind the attacks on Shi’ite gatherings and mosques in the past.

A prominent Sikh leader in the restive Afghan city of Kunduz was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Thursday, the latest in a string of attacks targeting the minority community whose members have left the country in droves.

Lala Del Souz, a naturopath, was gunned down in Haji Gulistan Kochi Haman area of Kunduz at 9 am, Tolo News channel reported. He was reportedly on his way to his shop when the shooting occurred.

Del Souz, who headed the Sikh community of Kunduz succumbed to his injuries while being taken to hospital, said Naeem Mangal, the chief of the regional hospital.

Kunduz security chief Masoum Stanikzai confirmed the incident and said police had arrested three suspects. Investigations will continue, he added.

Prem, Del Souz’s uncle, said his nephew was well liked and had no enemies. Other relatives said Del Souz was shot five years ago but survived. Prem asked the government to investigate the killing and make sure those responsible were brought to justice. He said if this does not happen, the few remaining Sikhs will “sell up and leave” Kunduz province.

This was the second killing of a Sikh since October, when Sardar Rawail Singh was abducted from his home and gunned down by suspected militants wearing military fatigues in the restive Nangarhar province bordering Pakistan.

Del Souz’s killing sparked an outcry on social media, with hundreds condemning the incident and sending condolences to his family.

Following the collapse of Kunduz province to the Taliban on two occasions in a little more than a year, many Sikhs left the area. After the fall of Kunduz city last year, Del Souz reportedly moved his family to India but stayed on himself with Prem in a ‘dharamsala’.

Only three Sikh families still live there. Sikhs have lived in Kunduz for more than three decades and there were as many as 40 families at one time.

Some 30,000 civilians fled Kunduz province after the Taliban launched an offensive in October to take over the region, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said.

Nearly 99% of the Hindus and Sikhs of Afghanistan have left the country over the past three decades, Tolo News said. It added that the Sikh and Hindu population numbered 220,000 in the 1980s but was now estimated to be only 1,350.

Tolo News said a survey done by it in June had showed that Hindus and Sikhs were once very active in business but now faced increasing poverty. The population of the two communities plummeted to 15,000 when the Taliban were in power during the 1990s and remained at that level during the militant regime.

Sikhs and Hindus suffered huge setbacks after the Taliban regime collapsed in 2001. This forced many of them to leave rural areas and move to Kabul to make a living.

A senior general of the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces sustained injuries in a roadside bomb explosion in central Logar province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed the vehicle of the commander of 203rd Thunder Corps of the Afghan National Army struck a roadside bomb during an operation in Charkh district.

MoD further added that the commander was injured in the attack and was shifted to the hospital on time.

According to the ministry, the health condition of the commander is satisfactory as he being treated in the provincial hospital.

According to the local security officials, the militants suffered the casualties in the past 24 hours in the vicinity of the strategic Tarinkot city, the provincial capital of Uruzgan.

The officials further added that their information indicate at least 24 militants were killed during the operations.

The 205th Atal Corps of the Afghan National Army confirmed the report and said several weapons, ammunition, and explosives of the militants were also destroyed during the operations.

According to the local government officials, the two officers were kidnapped as they were travelling in a vehicle in Chesht district.

Provincial governor’s spokesman Jilani Farhad confirmed that the two officers were travelling in a private vehicle and were stopped by the Taliban insurgents as they were on their way to Herat city.

This comes despite the provincial governor of Herat Mohammad Asif Rahimi’s earlier statement where he said the abduction cases have reduced by almost 40 percent in this province.

The Taliban at the behest of Pakistan is suspected to have killed Lala Del Souz, a leader of the minority Sikh community in Kunduz city of Afghanistan. Del Souz, a naturopath, was reportedly on his way to his shop in the Haji Gulistan Kochi Haman area on the morning of December 29 when gunmen fired at him. He died from his injuries while being taken to hospital.

According to the relatives of the deceased, he had been shot five years ago but survived the attack. Pakistan backed Taliban has been targeting the Hindu and Sikh minorities living in Afghanistan to create fear psychosis among them and force them to migrate abroad.


In Kunduz, the Sikhs have lived for over thirty years and at one time there were as many as 40 families in the area. However, many Sikhs left the province and currently only three families live there.


After the collapse of Kunduz city last year, Del Souz moved his family to India. He stayed on in Kunduz and lived with his uncle, Prem, in a Sikh temple. Over the past three decades, a majority of Hindu and Sikh in Afghanistan left the country.


There, the population has dropped sharply from 220,000 in the 1980s to 15,000 in the 1990’s when the Mujahideen was in power. It is now estimated that only around 1,000 Hindus and Sikhs remain in the country who are are being targeted by the Taliban.
