Its the begining of the fighting season. If this map stays as it is till the end of 2017 it will be a huge victory for the government

In recent developments Russia has been accused of Supporting taliban along with Iran but the major emphasis is that Russia has been supporting taliban. Strange isn't it how support of taliban switches based on who the yanks are not happy with.

Well reports are saying that its not far off. So the map can be used to measure the situation which is grim to say the least. I have said it before and I will say it again. The afghan govt is simply not serious. They don't care. They will send 30-50k men on the building of a gate on Pakistan side of the border but wouldn't give a damn if a district fell. I get rhe feeling at this point the rulers are sinoky consolidating wealth to leave Afghanistan.

Looking at the map the govt seems to have the upper hand in central and northern and north eastern Afghanistan whereas the south is heavily under their Influence but that's not the shocking part. The shocking part is their heavy presence in northern Afghanistan areas which weren't under the control of Taliban in 1996-2001. The Balkh and badakshan yet in the map they are heavily contested and districts have fallen. I was aware of the Taliban presence in badakshan. Along with this the Uzbek borders and turkmenistan borders are under heavy contest. Perhaps its time the Afghan govt adds Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and Tajikistan in the list of countries that support the Taliban. Every neighbor is conspiring against them.

If the west leaves Russia and China would step in- Their support for Taliban is more anti-US than any other thing- Plus they want to get a foothold in this area- same with China- none of them would allow another Taliban type Govt- there- which could be used as catapult to bombard Central Asia and Uighur province with religious fanatics-

by no means it's a good news for Pakistan. We need to had a better strategy to deal with Afghan government but unfortunately Afghan Government need to had a better strategy to create it's influence. 80% population is denied the true representation in government then the results are obvious
