three militants attacked the the Khost military airport in eastern Afghanistan, including a suicide bomber, who detonated a car with explosives at the eastern gate of the airport, according to local media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Most of military forces at the Khost military airport in eastern Afghanistan, attacked on Saturday by militants, are foreigners, local media reported.

According to TOLO news broadcaster, earlier in the day, three militants attacked the airport, including a suicide bomber, who detonated a car with explosives at the eastern gate of the airport. Two other attackers managed to enter the territory of the airport and start clashing with the security forces.

The attack started at around 2:30 p.m. local time (10:00 GMT), according to the broadcaster.

No immediate reports about the victims in the attack have been provided yet.

Earlier this week, a group of terrorists dressed as medical staff attacked the military Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital in the capital of Afghanistan, with the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist group outlawed in Russia and other countries) claiming responsibility for the assault. About 50 people died in the attack.

Afghanistan has been experiencing significant political, social and security-related instability for decades, as radical extremist organizations, including the Taliban and IS, continue to stage attacks against civilian and military targets. NATO's Resolute Support mission has been deployed in Afghanistan since 2015.

Khost airport attack: 1 assailant killed, 2 flee

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): One attacker was killed and two others were able to flee after a botched attack on the military airport in southeastern Khost province on Saturday.

Fazl Khuda, 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman in the southeastern region, told Pajhwok Afghan News three armed men attempted to storm the military airport, but one of them was killed by Afghan forces and the two others fled.

Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Faizullah Ghairat confirmed one attacker had been killed and two others fled.

But he said only a pistol was discovered from the dead assailant. Investigations into the incident are underway, he added.

The military airport serves as a base for the special forces. No group has so far commented on the incident.

The situation in Afghanistan is getting out of hand and this will hurt Indian investment in the war torn country.

Gunmen attack military airport in eastern Afghanistan

Gunmen attacked a military air base in the eastern Afghan province of Khost, officials said on Saturday.

Khost police spokesman Faizullah Ghairat said that three militants had attacked the base, close to the border with Pakistan. One had been killed, while two others were still holding out, he said.

There was no immediate comment from the headquarters of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Kabul.

The incident comes just ahead of the normal start of the spring fighting season, when warmer weather brings increased operations by both insurgents and government forces.

Afghan and U.S. officials have warned that Afghanistan will see increased fighting this year as the Taliban steps up an insurgency which has cut the area controlled by the government to below 60 percent.

Earlier this week, the head of U.S. Central Command, General Joseph Votel, asked for more American troops to join the roughly 8,400 already stationed there.

The Afghan interior ministry said that over the past 25 hours, security forces had killed 51 armed militants in counter-terrorism operations across Afghanistan.

In a separate incident in the southeastern province of Zabul, two renegade policemen killed eight colleagues and defected to the Taliban, local officials said, although details of the incident, which occurred last Friday, were unclear.

"They first poisoned them and after that shot and killed all of them," Zabul Governor Bismillah Afghanmal said, adding that the men stole weapons and equipment before defecting.

The Taliban's main spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied that the two poisoned their colleagues, saying that they had "prepared the way" for other fighters to attack the checkpoint.

That picture speaks a thousand words, the guy with the RPG has his buddy standing right behind him, the guy with the rifle is leaning on the door and aiming upwards, their humvee looks unmaintained, and it seems they just decided to park out in the middle of nowhere.

No wonder a bunch of tribesmen with Ak-47's can take 40% of the country.
