Afghan girls brave Taliban threats - CENTRAL/S. ASIA - Al Jazeera English

The Taliban has waged a violent campaign against girls who go to schools in their Afghan strongholds.

A series of attacks against schools and female students have driven many girls to go underground to receive an education.
In 2008 around 15 schoolgirls and teachers were sprayed with acid by men on motorbikes

In one attack in Kandahar in 2008, around 15 girls and teachers were sprayed with acidby men on motorbikes.

During Taliban rule, from 1996-2001, girls were banned from attending school.

In parts of southern and eastern Afghanistan, particularly in Taliban strongholds, schools for girls still remain closed.

But the Taliban has denied any involvement in the recent spate of suspected attacks,and has condemned the targeting of school girls.

The Afghan government, however, has blamed the suspected attacks on fighters opposed to female education.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel-Hamid visited one secret school for girls in Kandahar and sent this report.

Yea, i know the RAWA guys, but they have got their own problem, they are as fanatic as the taliban except on the opposite side. but i like the way they expose the taliban. they are also accused of having close contacts with some foreign intelegence agencies. but god knows what the truth is.

Bravo to all the Afghan women to resist these barbarians! I hope that all the women from world around come forward to help these brave Afghans. Time to wipe out Taliban whatever it takes the ISAF. More countries should volunteer troops and help the ISAF to stabilize the region.

Is it truly necessary to deter such attacks with the threat of violence? Why not something that would demonstrate to the Taliban that they've chosen to depart from the path of holiness? Say, deprive all Taliban of halal food for x-number of years.
