Should not have gotten involved with Osama bin Laden in the first place. Remember that we tried for 10 YRS in appealing to the Taliban before 9/11. Ten yrs is plenty enough time. Now the lesson for the region is that if you do not want a mess, do not mess with US. TEN YRS of negotiations.

Frankly it was couple of weeks..probably more time would have resulted a different scenario but Mr Bush was more keen on military solutions
10 years ago USA just wrapped up and left a unstable govt while sanctioning Pakistan in the process..
In other words left with huge mess in Afghanistan and victory in Europe with German unification ...
If anything I doubt a lesson was learnt by anyone not to mess with usa...though 10 of thousands of people did end up losing there families to war..damaging usa soft power

I think US has won the war .. that's how I look at it but it seems like you are not able to convince your own selves that you have won , which is what I'm trying to understand why is that the case , what do you feel is still left to win .. you HAVE won .... its over.

There is a book Moby Dick, written by an American author , it's about a white whale and captain's journey to hunt it down, perhaps US generals need to read that and find closure for themselves.
