Afghan Army to train in India

India has experience in training other Air forces like they trained Sadam's Air force but to make a air force from nothing is not easy ($$$) hardware, training for technicians, Spares , ground support and then Pilot training. Afghans can't out source all these like rich Arab countries

Yeah u r right..But the Afghans need a fully functional Airforce to counter the Taliban. We all know that how vital a role Airforce can play against the Taliban. It was proved when USA invaded Afghanistan.

Now the coalition forces will leave after some time.Along with that, the jets will leave as well.Air support is a vital instrument that gives ANA an upper hand in fighting the taliban.Without air support, the ANA may have to encounter huge casualties.

Right now the Afghan National Army Air Force mainly comprises of Russian attack helicopters, some transporters and 3 Albatross(used for ceremonial purposes only). There are no dedicated ground attack jets....So,it will be a good move in my opinion to arm them up with some of fighters that can play ground attack roles....That way ANA will have more self dependency....

Trust me it was much better, at least we wouldnt have suffered from death and destruction for the last 30 years, our country has gone to dust, our kids, men, women, elderly people are getting killed, we are hungry, dont have schools/hospitals, thanks to the fight against the russians. every houshold is most likely to have lost at least one of their members in this long term conflict. we physically fought the russians(soviets) in our own soil, but fruit was eaten by the west and paksitan.

Look brother I do understand your frustration. But had we known that Taliban were going to do this to you we may have not helped them in ways we did. I personally believe that Pak did help you as a goodwill gesture in an attempt to rid you of the invasion. Not only Taliban but a lot of Pakistanis were personally there to fight against Soviets. At that time we cdnt have seen what was coming in future because we were so much consumed in attempts to free our Afghan brothers then. Maybe what we did was a mistake but this is only today that we can come to this conclusion. If we go back to 1970s, I think we made the right choice to free our Muslim brothers from illegal occupation. That was the only motive then, obviously it seems a lot defferent when we look at it from modern day situation. The intentions were good , the result wasn't probably great and nothing like we expected!

So,this is not ur war.In other words, somebody forced u to do their own bidding.U know what??the lads in the army are paid too,for the job that they do.But the sense of national interest is involved there. But those people who fight other's war and expect to get paid in return are called hired guns or mercenaries. Is that what the Pakistani Army is in the hands of the Americans???

and who exactly is funding them? so yes it is a fight forced on us and we should be compensated for that!

worry abt ur moaists and naxalites and what not.. dont worry about us.. ! Ur army is paid for the job too but too reluctant to fight with them.. so hush!

Know your history.

Illegal occupation you say?

Afghan Government invited Soviets.

If you (Pakistan) is so determined to free Muslims from illegal occupation better concentrate on Palestine or Iraq.

You fought against Soviets as your uncle wanted you to. You got weapons, money, aid everything against it.

You wont do the same against Israel in Palestine and US against Iraq coz there, you neither get aid/weapons nor money.

Do you know anything about the ongoing fight with naxalites????
Our army is paid to fight against our enemy, not against naxalites..it's the duty of police,& para-military forces to neutralize this menace.

If army was deployed to fight with naxalites ,then you hardly hear about their presence.

& We don't worry about a failed country.

You dont need an Afghan member's confirmation on that. Thats the way it happened in history and you can read about it in a lot of sources on the web.

U raise a very important question my friend...Who is actually funding the taliban??Well there has been deep controversies about it.The taliban are pretty much tight lipped about it which is understandable for obvious reasons....
Back in the 1980's ,the then Mujahedeen fighters were funded by the US,the Gulf countries and obviously,Pakistan.
US alone used to pour in a fund of $600 million with a matching amount coming from Saudi Arabia alone.Other gulf countries were significant contributors too, followed by UK and Pakistan.

Now there are no controversies about that. So,we narrow down to,who is funding them now.
So far as they known sources are concerned they can be widely categorized into the following types:
1.Extortion money.
2.Drug money.
3.Local support.
4.Funds from other countries.

Now,let us take a deeper look:
Extortion money::It has been alleged that Afghan firms linked to taliban are extorting as much as $4million a week from contractors paid with U.S. tax dollars and then funneling the spoils to warlords and the Taliban.

The manager of an Afghan firm with lucrative construction contracts with the U.S. government builds in a minimum of 20 percent for the Taliban in his cost estimates. The manager, who will not speak openly, has told friends privately that he makes in the neighborhood of $1 million per month. Out of this, $200,000 is siphoned off for the insurgents.
One contractor in the southern province of Helmand was negotiating with a local supplier for a large shipment of pipes. The pipes had to be brought in from Pakistan, so the supplier tacked on about 30 percent extra for the Taliban, to ensure that the pipes reached Lashkar Gah safely.

In Farah province, local officials report that the Taliban are taking up to 40 percent of the money coming in for the National Solidarity Program, one of the country’s most successful community reconstruction projects, which has dispensed hundreds of millions of dollars throughout the country over the past six years.
Well, the Taliban had a whole country to run which is a safe haven for producing drugs..
"It’s a disaster," said a 50-year-old resident of Marja district. "We have to give them two kilos of poppy paste per jerib during the harvest; then we have to give them ushr (an Islamic tax, amounting to one-tenth of the harvest) from our wheat. Then they insisted on zakat (an Islamic tithe). Now they have come up with something else: 12,000 Pakistani rupee (approximately $150) per household. And they won’t take even one rupee less."

The total amount of extortion money may add up to $1 billion per year.

U can find the detailed report here::

Who is funding the Afghan Taliban? You don’t want to know

Drug money::Drug trade happens to be one of the biggest source of Taliban income. Some reports gauged the total annual income at about $100 million, while others placed the figure as high as $300 million — still a small fraction of the $4 billion poppy industry.

It is estimated that opium cropgenerates an estimated $300 million annually to pay for weapons, recruiting, and other needs. The Taliban also generate income by collecting protection payments from opium farmers.
"Opium is their financial engine," said Brig. Gen. John Nicholson, NATO's deputy commander in southern Afghanistan. "That is why we think he will fight for these areas."
Opium now represents 60 percent of Afghanistan's gross domestic product, however, so getting farmers to stop growing poppies won't be easy.

Blooming Financial Support

Local support::Afghanistan has proved to be an unlucky state for Pakistan while sharing its longest border. Some previous pacts made by governments of Pakistan/heads of state have resulted in infiltration of Afghans in Pakistan without any calculation or record. This infiltration was never limited to humans only but the traditions, customs and norms of life were also migrated with them. One of these customs or one can say means of survival has been their forceful inception of young boys to fight for them in their wars and battles against strong enemies.

As soon as Taliban entered swat and began their activities, their first step was installation of fear through show of weapon. Then, they created an atmosphere where they asked local men to have beard and women shall remain in veils, as it is Islam. With this, there remained no difference between who is local and who is Taliban. I mean who can actually differentiate among true Taliban and locals if they have the same dress code?

With the operation initiated against their activities by government, they simply adopted the same policy of forceful inception of young boys of the area to fight for them against the army. In such a situation when one’s near and dears are fighting on the side of Taliban, who can actually support the government operation? This leads to no choice for the locals to simply support them. In such a situation many families have also reported that they cannot even leave the area as Taliban have their children who are brain washed and used as a human weapon.

Funds from other countries::
The subject of donations that fund the Taliban and possibly al-Qaeda, particularly from individuals in the Gulf region, is becoming a nightmare for the security agencies responsible for choking off the funding sources of both these groups.

An Arab diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that security agencies in the Gulf have been able to track money transfers whose ultimate destination is believed to be the Taliban Movement. These transfers are estimated at $100 million annually by the US media. The agencies that are tracking the money flow also noted a change in the way these donations are transferred in order to hide the real identity of the donors.

Security agencies leading the fight against Taliban funding are concerned that some donors, whether they are from the Gulf or other countries around the world, might not be aware that the money they give to the Taliban ends up funding bombing operations whose victims are innocent people, even though the Taliban claims to target western forces or soldiers of the Afghan government.

There are some other highly controversial sources as well.We will talk about them in due time.

worry abt ur moaists and naxalites and what not.. dont worry about us.. ! Ur army is paid for the job too but too reluctant to fight with them.. so hush!

The taliban may be somewhat related to the discussion about Afghan Army training in India,as the ANA is directly involved in countering them, but the naxalites are nowhere related to the topic.
So,let us just take another look at the title of the thread and stick back to it.Be rest assured that I can provide u with loads of literature that will show u what actions are being taken against the naxalites in India,or what was done to irradicate the North-East rebels who have now virtually ceased to exist.I will do that, but in relevant thread.

And please,do some research of ur own before posting.Right now,the the Central Reserve police Forces are involved in countering the naxalites, not the Military. There is a difference.

Have a good day..

^^^^ shocking unbleavble, unimeginable- the money which is to construct is now distroying afganistan. horible.

.
A fair election and a good Afghan Army with current extreme corruption, not in near future.

it has to be started from somewhere to get the point we want. that cant be achieved if there is fight and killing, there is only one way to achieve it all, and that is peace, that is what the taliban dont want, if they are really not the enemy of their country, they need to think deeply before they start killing the poeple and destroying their country.

. .
Brother, trust deficit between afghanistan and pakistan is the highest despite the fact that you hosted milions of afghans, you are muslims just like us, you are our neighbour and other issues too, i know pakistani friends always BLAME us, but not everyting is our fault!! Have you ever asked once that what should have pakistan or shouldnt have pakistan done in the past/present to have had good relations and understanding with us? Indians are not our neighbour, they are hindu(majority) and we are muslims, but understanding and trust is very high, public opinon is hugely in their favour, what is the secret? what can pakistan do to engage in a much better relationship with afghanistan? i dont think bullying and snobish attitude will help you, it will even drive afghans further and further from pakistan and alienate them. None of the ethnic groups of afghanistan trust pakistan, Tajiks and other ethnics have been aleniated intentially by pakistan, pashtons on the other hand dont like pakistan either, so what has gone wrong? what should pakistan do to put a better image of itself among the public in afghanistan, what has pakistan done that they were not supposed to do? certainly supporting and creating militia groups dont help you, once there is peace and proper gov, the militias like taliban will vanish automatically, and then what for pakistan? But if you think that pakistan will make sure to keep the fighting and insecurity alive in afghanistna to keep its card playing, i can tell you that insecurity in afghanistan will directly affet your security in paksitan, we are seeing it now and we will see it in the future. It looks like you talk very confidently about the taliban to be under the circle of your influence, believe it or not, they are not friends of pakistan either although they get help from pakistan.

you know what i think?

we are suffering from our own kindness vis a vis the afghan situation.

we treated afghans like our brothers by allowing millions into our country, allowing them to settle and live and what not - we could have said no!

and what do the afghans do - they have reasoned in their hearts and minds that pakistan is the root of all evil of whats going in afghanistan - who needs enemies when you have friends like these??

do they blame the americans who CREATED THE MUJHADEEN?

do they blame the russians who invaded?

no, they blame the pakistani's who helped liberate their nation from the ussr, who stood side by side with them and housed their destitute people, you think the indians or the iranians would do this?

you cannot blames the ill's of afghanistan on pakistan, what were you afghans doing yourselves?

pakistan can barely govern itself, let alone help create another country, yet still you come to our houses and piss on our floors when you have the chance

I tell you one thing bro, You are not as ANGEL as you think and we are not as evil as you think. I think you need to dig deep impartially to see why people are not in favour of pakistan in taht country, perhaps they have a point and reasons.
