believe me this is not confined to the political guys only, i doubt if you find a single ordinary pashtun in Afghanistan that dont talk and claim on KP.

I live here with them our Pakistani Pukhtuns consider them Afghanistanis and they consider us Pakistanis and KP is a place like Dubai for them where they think they are here for earning nothing more than that. your claim is not right.

1. Afghanistan had opposed the creation of Pakistan and its entry into UN. Pakhtun leaders like Gaffar Khan and Faqir Ipi had advocated an independent or autonomous Pakhtunistan.

2. During 1965 War, Afghans had mobilized to enter into NWFP-Baluchistan in case the Indians overran Pakistan.

3. Karzai and his military chief are going to disappear once the Americans are totally gone. How Pakistan is going to manage the Taliban will be interesting to watch.

4. Suhrowardy was the first Pak leader who could talk to the Afghans to solve this issue. At his urging, Iskanadr Mirza ( an old Pol Agent and fluent in Pashtu and Persian) had visited Afghanistan offering a confederation. Afghans had not rejected this. Ayub, a Pathan himself, had also thought on similar lines.

5. Not many Pakistanis know that Air Marshal Asghar Khan is highly respected by the Afghans. Services of the old man, Gen Hamid Gul, Brig Yusuf, Gen Afzal Janjua, Nawab Barrister Samin Khan (if he is alive) and people like them could be utilized after the IAE Govt is back in Kabul. The solution seems to be in unification - not in further division.

There is not a single reason why pakistan and afghanistan should form a united country, what we need is good relations and that is it. You are talking about unification, then why on earth you separated from Pakistan?

Kabul has been part of Mughal Empire for centuries so we should take kabul instead and bring it under its mother land now called Pakistan.....similarly India was part of Mughal Empire as well so we will take it too to join under us to create a single Islamic Empire and to stop all the conflicts within the region , once and for all........Insha-Allah ................

They have Valid Point since they are talking about agreement of 100 years ( aka Hong Kong ) which has expired.

Pakistan was made for all the muslims of the Indian Subcontinent..but as muslims decided to stay in India, Pkaistan shoudl cease to exist....and even if they exist, they should be no bigger than Nepal.

I suspect you know the answer to your question. The situation is not the same between Pak and Afghanistan. And unity does not mean only unification as one country. Confederation may be one option. Confederation with common control and autonomy to the tribal areas on either side of the Line may be another. There would definitely be other options acceptable to all.

Afghanistan's agreement was with Britain, the people of KP don't want to go back to Afg, proof of that is the fact that when Afg attacked Pak in 1962, it was the Tribal Lashkars and FC that beat them back to Afg. There was no need for the Army to become involved in the matter. The respected general should worry about himself, seeing how the transition of Helmand has gone. After the US withdraws, I would give ANA 3 months max.
