Mortal enemies India and pakistan have done more trade. I don't understand the logic why pak and Astan need to close down trade.

How can we have high trade with a country that claims half of our country on a state level?

Pakistan implemented security measures to check cargo and civillians, in order to prevent Afghan based militants crossing. In a retarded revenge move, they instituted a slew of dumb measures including banning our trade to transit their country. Their country has historically been the trade hub in the region, so its ridiculous for them to implement something like that.

Its not like we are being unreasonable, our security efforts have resulted in one of the worlds most successful reduction in terrorist incidents. The TTP has pretty much been eradicated here, and the yearly deaths went from 12,000 to the current 1100.

I fail to find relation between suspended trade and security. The 2 Billion dollar trade is a legal/documented trade that happens at legitimate border crossing with full checks and measures. Even if you fence the border the trade can still go on through these crossings. And even then fence are no effective countermeasures against humans(super effective for cattles). Terrorists can/will and always have jumped the fences at secluded places. They are not bringing SAMs with them that will require roads. They just need to walk over a hill with a RPG or AK. Look at US-Mexico border. US with all the resources and money cannot stop Mexicans from jumping over. Fences are useless if a person wants to cross. And security patrols can't be everywhere at the same time.

So what is the connection between halted trade and security?

We have been hearing this blah blah blah for decades now. What has Afghanistan to offer apart from opium and AK-47? Afghanistan has nothing to offer in trade apart from refugees and opium. That's the only trade Afghanistan knows.

Besides, even if the fence prevents just one attack it is worth the hassle. A fence is just one aspect of securing the borders. Pakistan will rely on many solutions to curb instability on the other side of the borders. Comparing the Mexican US border with Pakistan Afghanistan border is like comparing apples with oranges.

India bangladesh border is fenced. Still there beliteral trade is 7-8 billion dollars a year. Only a fool will need decline in trade to justify fencing. Both are as separate as sun and earth.

The 2 billion is peanuts compared to the terror and drugs being smuggled into our borders. India has utilized the border area to its advantage by sending over Afghan suicide bombers. We are not going to allow that anymore. Afghanistan has no trade potential. Afghanistan is a failed narcotic state where the government doesn’t even control 10% of the territory. You want Pakistan to trade with such a nation?

You haven’t read my previous post quite well. The purpose of building this fence is manifold. It is not only meant to secure and mark the border, but also flex muscle and let the Afghans know who owns this place. Basically, it is about getting the message across. Do something about it if you can.

The Afghans resorted to shelling after we started fencing the border. We returned the favor and the Afghans now understand the score. It will be an eye for an eye.
