The India-Bangladesh land border agreement, concluded recently by prime minister Manmohan Singh during Dhaka trip, has sparked protests and allegations of a sell off in the north-east.

However, India has got double of what Bangladesh got in Assam, from the land border agreement the two nations signed, sources said. Available details from the agreement show India got 714 acres (all in boundary demarcation), and Bangladesh about 357 acres.

“There are accusations that India gave away 665 acres in Assam. That’s not true. We got almost double of what has been given to Bangladesh. And most of the areas given to Bangladesh were the ones that had been in their possession since Independence, and were only pending a settlement,” sources said. Also, sources added, the deal will only be implemented after it is ratified by parliament.

Sources said the agreement has been balanced in terms of the areas exchanged.

“The agreement had been signed by all four north-eastern states with stakes in the agreement. And they are all happy with it,” sources said.

Sources explained, in Assam, the boundary issue had 3 adverse possessions and 1 case of demarcation of boundary. In the first case of adverse possession in Nayagaon area Bangladesh wanted “145 acres”. “We gave them none,” sources said.

In Palakhal area India gave “74.5 acres,” and in Boraibari “193 acres”.

“area had been in their possession since independence. In case of adverse possessions, they had asked for 793 acres, but we only gave them about 267 acres,” a source said. India got its share of the deal, 714 acres, in boundary demarcation.

This 2 so called adviser rizvi and mashiur should be charged with act of treason ... and if possible need to be hanged in public square in front of the public so that no one even dare to do any treason against the sovereignty of Bangladesh... But hassina and dipu moni also need to be blamed and they are also equally responsible... They just wanted to show that land swap deap has been signed but these foolish and traitors has done it after giving away the interest of Bangladesh over India... A prime example of Indian dalali... I hope treason charge will be brought against them as soon as possible...:-@

Could be. That's what happens when you have complete assholes in power. Do you really think that India would compromise land area over this?

I doubt if the BNP is in the best interests of India or Bangladesh. Tarique Rahman is probably one of the most hated guys in the country.

But you'd at least have to admit, bagging everything into the AL is just failure of epic proportions.

The reason of solving border issue is to step forward and leap into economical and political relation for the future benefits. This is decided on the basis of the foreign policies of the country. China resolve the border issue with Russia as they see more advantages in building the relationship with Russia, which has provided great technological advantage to China in past decades. China don't see advantage in resolving the border issue with the India and is happy in keeping it alive. Same is the case with pakistan. Pakistan system is based on anti-India feelings and without it they will loose objective of survival.

On the other hand, Bangladesh see enormous opportunities in working with India and ,henceforth, is working on these policies.

There is a lot of speculation that the AL is indeed an Indian stooge in Bangladesh. Many did vote for the AL in hopes for better relations with India. But, not like this.

Who told you that china resolve border dispute with russia after giving away their national interest...???? As far as I know china has still claim on russian territory,,,,and economic development and cooperation does not mean one will have to do it after giving away their national interest.

I see there is a majow flaw in the land swap deal... which is based on the fact that india will keep the land that is in their control and bangladesh will do the same... and it is quite natural bhartis are possessing more bd land then the other way around... n instead of making a deal based on recovering the land which is under control of the bhartis they agreed on this suicidal deal... where India is only meant to benefit.

But this is ironic that majority of bangladeshis are not aware of these... n some hypocrite BJP supporter are protesting despite getting more land.

only to the bolded part..

1. India and pakistan can definitely solve kashmir issue just like the India- BD deal...and am glad you cam eup with this suggestion..infact India is already to solve the issue by maintainingthe status quo....give and take policy..just like this deal.
2. India - China can solve the problem as well...but we've have to wait until the Chinese and Indian govt agrees to go for a similar deal like Indo-BD...inthis case your Govt agreed to solve it.....if they had any issue they should have clearly objected.
