Advani slams Nehru's foreign policy on China, Pakistan in his blog

Against the backdrop of BJP opposing resumption of dialogue with Pakistan, senior party leader L K Advani on Monday said terrorism and Kashmir are "festering sores to this day" due to "mishandling" of Pakistan by Jawaharlal Nehru.

"His (Nehru's) mishandling of Pakistan has left terrorism and Kashmir as two festering sores for our body politic right up to this day," Advani wrote in his blog.

His comments come a day after the BJP asked the government not to go ahead with the Foreign Secretary-level talks slated to be held here on February 25, saying "terror and talks" cannot go together and "not talking" is also a diplomatic option.

Advani quotes extensively from a recent work of renowned editor Fareed Zakaria in his blog to accuse Nehru of having pursued a weak foreign policy towards Pakistan and China, in whose favour he refused a permanent seat in the UN Security Council for India.

"There can hardly be a more glaring instance of Nehruji's unconcern for India's own strategic interests than his refusal to accept a US offer in 1952 of a permanent seat in the UN Security Council. He insisted that the seat be given to China," Advani said.

"Sadly, the shock that Nehru suffered when confronted by China's gross betrayal in 1962 virtually cost him his life," he said.

I think BJP remain biggest obstacle for national development of India

Well they are extremely nationalistic, even to the extent of being detrimental to the country. But in their deeds, they aren't very different from the other major political party the Congress. Politicians in India are all birds of the same feather.

may be...but they have positive points too...they have some agenda's which infact is gr8....their stand on reservation is something i accept.....

issues like Article 370,common civil code has gr8 appeal among many indians..
their stand on reservation is something i accept..they support river linking..

But in the issue of Ram mandir..iam totally against them..i believe their is no solution to that prblm...

they r nationalistic...but at some point they confuse nationalism and religious fantacism.......

i guess its always better to have a liberal and a conservative major party in national politics.....

P.S: Purely my personal opinion....

Yes, nehruji have committed some mistakes but what have this chap done they had gone lahore resulting in kargil.

I just hate BJP and in our family we have never voted for it. Not even my father and grandfather.

But i wish BJP become more strong and always sit in the opposition so the ruling party remain in its toes and work for people.

I am 200% agreed with Advani at this point. Mr. Nehru's policies lead us to a poor country after 50 years (1997) of independence though we had everything resources, man power.... He was very reluctant of defence matters as well, just one example.....

"At the morning meeting he handed over the (Accession) thing. Mountbatten turned around and said, ' come on Manekji (He called me Manekji instead of Manekshaw), what is the military situation?' I gave him the military situation, and told him that unless we flew in troops immediately, we would have lost Srinagar, because going by road would take days, and once the tribesmen got to the airport and Srinagar, we couldn't fly troops in. Everything was ready at the airport.

As usual Nehru talked about the United Nations, Russia, Africa, God almighty, everybody, until Sardar Patel lost his temper. He said, 'Jawaharlal, do you want Kashmir, or do you want to give it away'. He (Nehru) said,' Of course, I want Kashmir (emphasis in original). Then he (Patel) said 'Please give your orders'. And before he could say anything Sardar Patel turned to me and said, 'You have got your orders'."

From Pakistan's point of view, we prefer crazy Hindu fundos in power in India. During BJPs tenure, India was easily manipulated as the bad guy since they huffed and puffed much louder than the Mullahs of Pakistan. Mullahs in Pakistan never win a seat, but their counterparts in India form governments.

From the war scenario, It has been the "peaceful" congress that has always gone to war with Pakistan, not the hardliners. It's always better to have an idiot in charge of the enemy than calm, cool and composed folks.

While its true that the BJP was out maneuvered by Pakistan, as compared to several diplomatic wins of the Congress over Pakistan, it should also be noted, the BJP were up against a popular Musharraf and the Congress have an unpopular Zardari to contend with.

Sir, please tell us when last time Mullahs believed in democracy and when they competed in an election?

In India BJP may chant anti-Pakistan slogans for vote but tell me in Pakistan which party doesn't? We have just seen a public lecture made by Pakistani foreign minister just after India proposed foreign secretary level talks.

They have competed in all the elections, never won the majority.

Search on Jamaat-e-Ullema Islam, Jamaat-e-Islaami... Two major religious parties of Pakistan. There are several smaller parties too.

UNSC permanent seats are given to Big 5 winning WWII (USSR -> Russia, USA, UK, RoChina -> PRChina, France)

Chinese seat hand over in 1971 from RoChina to PRChina because RoChina fleet to Taiwan for 22 years but actually not represent all China.

Can you point to me any party's campaign from the 2008 elections which included Kashmir or India in its manifesto?

Moreover you will be hard pressed to find anti-Indian "chants" from mainstream Pakistani politicians. When specific issues are discussed India is criticized, but there is no India like drumming up of support in Pakistan.
