Adidas to close its only factory in China
Updated: 2012-07-20 15:41

Sporting goods and apparel maker Adidas AG is closing its only company-owned sportswear factory in China later this year to streamline manufacturing, a company spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Sabrina Cheung said in an email China remained a key market for sourcing goods for Germany-based Adidas with more than 300 supplier partners in the country.

China is no longer price competitive for export-oriented manufacturers, so foreign manufacturer are packing up and leave in search of other lower-cost countries.

.
And those lower cost countries are ???

Bangladesh looks more viable for them, their economic condition is good compared to other asian nations..

. .
Bangladesh can make very good quality shoes. And at low cost!

.
Sorry guys they closed in Chian and open plant in India...better luck next time...:D

Adidas, Alphinestar and many brands shoes, Football, Shirts etc made in Sialkot Pakistan. My friend who is running two big industries in Sialkot making NIKE and Slazanger stuff which his industry sell to Slazenger and NIKE. They put up their brand tags and sell as "Branded shirts, shoes etc". NIKE, Slazenger, Addidas, etc brands now not interested to running own industries. Better to out-source policy .... bought them... add brand tag... and sold as brand stuff in international markets.

Ok, peak, warrior and 361° brands have nice name.. but rest of the brands will remain local brands in future..
No one can compete with brand names, every one has their own choice of brand.. if a chinese loves nike he will wear it, he won't compromise for that..

I think, the incident actually shows China's DOMESTIC industrial growth....
The article says that the International Brand shut down anticipating severe competition from the Domestic Brands....which means, the Domestic brands are equally good and capable of giving them tough competition...
Moreover, China loosing competitiveness in international labor market actually means their per capita income is increasing....hence HDI is increasing...which is sign of real all-round development....

This increase in DOMESTIC production and consumption shows China's Growth won't falter easily....there can be temporary economic downturn or upturn, BUT china is becoming more and more self-reliant...

Therefore, I don't think the Chinese are worried about loosing those Intl. brands....they seem to be quite happy with their DOMESTIC ones which are going to be International.....

.
Who wants to wear Adidas or Nike anyways? Peak shoes are way better

China's brands present no challenges to Adidas and Nike outside of China.

The only problem is that China is still heavily dependent on exports and Chinese brands cannot make up for the loss of exports by foreign brands. Imagine the day Foxconn leaves China for Vietnam or some other place. We are talking 1 million Chinese workers unemployed, and an entire Foxconn city decimated.

Chinese domestic brands are for China only.

Very soon China will off shored some of manufacturing too but then it'll probably limited to the private enterprises or public traded companies. ASEAN nations besides Singapore will definitely benefit.
