Stating that there is a good chance that Greece will exit the euro zone, the Wall Street Journal suggests to European leaders that they add Turkey instead. 'MarketWatch', a blog produced by the United States' Wall Street Journal, recently published an interesting article regarding Turkey joining the euro zone. The article openly suggests that if Greece should depart the Euro zone then it would be wise to add Turkey in its place.

"If Greece ends up leaving the euro zone, as the nonstop flow of "Grexit" rumors suggest might just happen Turkey should take its place."

The article goes on to draw attention to Turkey's current rate of growth, pointing out that in 2011, Turkey grew by 8.5%, a figure which the article states "most of Europe would rub its collective hands in glee over."

The article, entitled 'If Greece exits euro zone, add Turkey' goes on to jest, "As European leaders in Brussels this evening embark on yet another dinnertime summit, they might do well to look up from their soup and reach for the Turkish delight."

It won't be good for Turkey to join Euro-zone now, specially when they apparently entered an era of economic stagnation. And not to forget, their currency depreciation.

. . .
The EU is a sinking-boat ("doobti kashti" in Urdu). Turkey will have a better prospect outside that zone. One day Turks (holding Turkish Delights) will look across the border and say: "Thank God we never joined".

I think Germany got enough consumer economies in eurozone that she can balance. We must concentrate on fixing the trade deficit first. We must produce and export more. I think we may also consider exiting customs union to reduce imports.

However, joining EU is still a goal for us. I can't wait to see Turkey and UK dominating over Germany and France :)

I think that if the EU has to enforce common currency for all their members sooner or later if they want to continue growing. But before that they need to enforce same economic discipline on all their member countries. So that they're all on the same page.

President Gül suggested a "Norway"-like solution for Turkey a country so well off economically that they don't need to join the EU. but have all the benefits e.g. visa free travels and such.

well we do have the second biggest population in Europe after Germany... so we would have more power than France, UK, Spain and Italy. the economic powers of EU. you get seats based on how much population you have. we have about 75 million people (give or take 1-2 million) and that will give us about 75 seats. thats a lot, and we can use the EU budget to give us more money :)

but if we have to change currency then i don't want to.
