Active Pakistani involvement during Soviet invasion of Afghanistan

Reposting: SSGs were surely involved at some fronts. There are many great examples of bravery shown by both the forces, even the aggressors, I still admire Soviets for their bravery, Americans are sitting ducks compared to them

Anytime, mate :)

I have some stories to share but I'm really out of time atm. Zaid Hamid has also shared some stories, although you guys don't like him, his book on Afghan Jihad is one of the best IMO, if you want to read from a Pakistani perspective.

The Bear Trap (Afghanistan’s Untold Story)

The author, Brigadier Mohammad Yousaf, was head of the Afghan Bureau of Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence and as such was effectively the Mujahideen’s commander-in-chief. He controlled the flow of thousands of tons of arms across Pakistan and into its occupied neighbor, arms that were bought with CIA and Saudi Arabian funds from the USA. One of the Mujahideen’s close allies was none other than Osama Bin Laden. This compelling book was put together with great skill the by military historian, Mark Adkin in conjunction with Brigadier Mohammad Yousaf and is essential reading for anyone interested in the truth behind the Afghanistan War which led to the conditions that exist there today.

I have a question here.
Was Pakistani army/special forces actively involved during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan?
I stress on the word actively as I mean active participation.

A few days back I took a short trip to Goa with my friends, where I happened to meet an elderly Russian guy in a beer bar.We talked a lot about various things, and it came out that he had served in Afghanistan during the invasion.3 bottles down,he heavily stressed in his broken English with Russian accent, that Pakistan was much more deeply involved in Afghanistan than the World knows. He even said that Pakistani special forces were actively involved in numerous raids on Soviet installations in a matter-of-fact manner.True or not, good stories indeed,we paid for his beer and eventually left.

The involvement of Pakistan in facilitating the flow of supplies of arms, ammunition, ration and money to the mujaheddin rebels is widely known (I would recommend the movie: Charlie Wilson's war).

The questions is,"Did Pakistani army/special forces actively take part in operations against Soviet forces, even if limited ?".It would have been quite a task if they did, considering the might of the Soviet armed forces in those days.
Can someone throw some light into this ?

Yes Pakistani special forces did fight against Russian special forces multiple times. If you look online you can find some links to this fact and it was to avenge the 1971 Russian involvement in the Indian-Pakistani war.

its a job ,I get it..important thing is what prompted the PA to take it up as a job..they were already doing quite fine with pumping in the Stingers and other stuffs.did PA perceive Soviet presence as such an imposing threat that made them take such measures?

The answer is yes because Zia ul Haq believed that if Afghanistan fell then Pakistan would be next.

I am glad that you sorted out your enemies right..keep it up and you will make progress in life..

Can we stick to the topic please ?

His response was on topic. LOL

I even heard that our SSG's even entered Soviet Union while fighting the Afghan war and directing the Mujahideen at that time....:coffee:

found this article about Hill 3234,Khost,Afghanistan, a part of Operation Magistral .seems like good read.

I doubt this account though if they were SSG they would not have done a frontal attack. The number of dead listed for this battle is way too high I don't think a special forces would have attempted this. Also it says it was early on in the war so they were most likely Afghan. I am not sure when exactly Pakistan got involved but I don't think it was in the first year. Anyone have any source to when exactly Pakistan got involved?

Soviet mainland? You have any source to this? I have never heard of even the Mujaheddin entering the Soviet mainland during the war.
