Act of Valour- Risaldar Muhammad Khan

How was Major Tufail Muhammad awarded the Nishan-e-Haider in '58 then ?

It was an incursion staged by Indians, once again, the military of a sovereign state.

Risaldar Sahib's tale is one that would rival any act of bravery by the previous recipients of the NH...in fact he displayed more valor, devotion and honor than some of the previous recipients combined.

That is not for us to comment, there is no greater valour than willingly sacrificing ones life, don't confuse circumstances with valour.

So our men are being denied the highest available awards because of a technicality ? o_O

Heck no one would've won the Medal of Honor during the American Civil War because the North didn't recognize the South as a separate Nation but simply as States with Rebels within them.

I am just saying that if our earlier recipients have been awarded the NeH based on bravery above and beyond the call of duty.....his display of that is without equal.

There are various technicalities for one to be a NH recipient, it is what has kept the award so exclusive for so long. A ribbon for mounting the NH on a medal strip also exists yet it is awarded only to those who have died, its pretty much an unwritten prerequisite so to circle back to where I started. The technicalities exist for a reason.

There are hundreds of stories like that of Ris Muhammad Khan that have remained untold for years, I will try my best to gather and share as many of them. This one resonated with me at a personal level due to my time spent in Bajaur and that is why I felt absolutely compelled to share it, the response so far has been encouraging and is testament to the fact that this nation recognizes and respects the bravery of its sons.

Yes, the very same.
tank was T-59?

Very brave of the fallen one, can someone confirm if this is the same incident which is documented on youtube ? IGFC took a bullet in his leg and in the same video the retreating tanks can be seen with intense fighting in the background.
which one? share the video.

the determination of the enemy must be commended as well. despite all the fire-power Pakistani forces brought to bear...all rescue attempts or breaching the enemy positions proved a failure. this narration also explains any novice or critic why in the Al Jazera program by Ragi Omar on the front lines.. a convey with tanks was told to cancel its advance due to an expected ambush. Indians and Taliban supporters still troll the youtube video page containing that part without having the sense or care how even tankers can be pinned down in a terrain like tribal areas.

That video doesn't actually show a withdrawal, Saqib's okay report is taken out of context in that video. The tanks were not withdrawing, they were carrying out the same mission of ferrying supplies between HQ and the stranded troops and it was natural for them to be ambushed during each raid.

It is a sad day when views of Indians and Taliban supporters converge. Not much to say except Carry on the good fight!

He's actually a former AC officer and is known for being a bit of a maverick, he traveled with the troops, and pulled stunts like these to keep the troops motivated. Nothing gets a sepoy motivated like seeing number one drive up to him, flag flying in the heat of battle and ask him how much longer he is going to sit on his *** and wait because the general has called for a barbecue and it will be running cold if that position is not taken soon.
That's just the sort of guy he was and his tactics worked. He was a battlefield commander, he'd draw a couple of lines on a blank paper without any reference and before you know it he would have fought an entire campaign on it and produced a battle plan accordingly meant to predict the enemy's movements in advance and work to nullify their advantage beforehand.
The man was a genius, plain and simple. Reckless and whimsical, but a genius.

Talking about Tariq Khan?
