A question to Pakistanis who remember their 4th/5th grade syllabus and is it not just syllabus, I am recalling few documentaries which were aired on PTV2 in early 90s and according to those, Pakistan had largest uranium reserves in the world. I am not leaving out possibility of being mistaken but if my memory is correct and other Pakistanis also remember that, how has this changed in 2015?

Also how are we meeting our current uranium requirements? Who is our supplier if they are not domestically produced? If we are producing uranium domestically, why do we need nuclear supplier group?

I do not know about what you are telling, but all credible geological survey publications say otherwise. The largest reserves are in Canada, Australia, Russia, Kazakistan, Namibia and China.

Pakistan in effect has such a deal with China. Currently Pakistan is busy building its 6th nuvlear reactor with many more in the pipeline. We will find out after Pres Xi's visit the real extent of this deal.

.
For any such deal to happen, the support of USA is mandatory and looking at the image of Pakistan in US. No politician over there would openly advocate it.

Competition never hurts the economy. Pakistan has one sixth the population of India and with this deal, India will get 63,000 MW of new nuclear power plants, all with foreign investment, technology transfer and fuel supply in the next 15 years. So theoretically such a deal should give Pakistan about 11,000 MW of nuclear energy, all with foreign investment and fuel supply. Will China provide that much?

It is not about just building the plant. It is about operational aspect of the plant as well. Pakistan currently not able to collect the revenue or the current power bills from its end consumers. India had the similar situation couple of decades ago. We had lots of powercut, interrupted power supply, government owned power companies were running in losses. Generation was dwindling. This is also true for Pakistan. You have time and again cyclic debt. This is mismanagement rather then resource crunch. I guess in this environment no one wants to invest huge amount of money associated with nuclear plants.
Pakistan needs to first work on its economy and set its priority correct. Then only it will be an attractive market for investment.

With china backing out of power projects don't think Pakistan win help then until they find any money for them.

Its basically a very low grade ore - yellow cake...The extraction process is quite expensive. Many countries have such reserves...but the practicality and the expertise to extract is missing. .The best ore comes from Canada and Australia - 20% U, which is also called weapons grade.

What is your source of learning?

pretty stupid discussion in my opinion, we already have a nuclear supplier in form of china, thats ready to supply us on loans(i dont think so any other country would even we are allowed), problem is our high courts blocking and putting such deals on stay!!!

.
Maybe. But if Pakistan is able to prove to the world that it is a responsible state and can transparently account for nuclear material and technology and will never transfer them to anyone else, then I do not see why Pakistan can not get the same deal. Perhaps it is going to be difficult but do-able.

They are obviously getting it from china, so I don't think there's any requirement.

When the current projects start to go live by 2017, the current electric production issue will have resolved by 80%, with significant foreign investments flowing through and the trade route becoming active, Pakistan's economy, from Gawader all the way to China, will start to present a great opportunity for international investors. That is when Pakistan would be able to get electric power plants from other countries. However, due to its size 6 times smaller than India, these plants won't come in as a "deal" like the world saw with India. Just because the Indian population and its size is enormous. Pakistan has less people and needs compared to India so the current projects can overcome majority of the shortfall to a point where the industries can start production again. Future demands will be met by future purchases of few nuclear plants IMO.
1-I agree that to become internationally effective, Pakistan needs to have a good performing economy.
2-Pak-China Economic corridor is much in the interest of China because it literally free Chinese economic trade routes and supply lines from threats in Indian Ocean and Red Sea. Gawadar is geographically much safer than Karachi. Pakistan may be getting a transit fee and money for local transport sector.
However, if a deal like India-US can be struck, it would be struck only with Chinese. However, Chinese have to have enough soft power to rebuff US and Possible western opposition which I afraid they don't have right now. US-Pakistan Nuke deal would only be a wish, not a reality.
