There is a purpose to keep such jokers in the US. They are not there to serve Pakistan but his highness Nawaz Sharif. Not too long ago there was a program on 92HD where Rauf Klasa and Amir Mateen participate. In that program both these gents raised a very concerning point that these ambassadors in the US are instructed to sell a rather very odd narrative to the US administration and media that if Nawaz is ousted, the WOT will be affected and there will be utter chaos in Pakistan etc etc. One can imagine what people like Aitzaz Chaudary are selling to the Americans.
I keep saying till the time we get rid of this treacherous government nothing is going to change inside or outside Pakistan. This show of defiance and tough attitude by GOP is nothing more than a sham. All of this is happening because they do not want Imran to take credit for displaying a tougher stance while government was being mum about it.

  • Ex-HC feels Aizaz’s heart is not in right place

Pakistan’s (former) High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit on July 5, 2017, sent an official letter to Pakistan’s Ambassador to US Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry in reference with his valedictory letter (FSO-1/2017 of March 12, 2017, as the foreign secretary.

“More I think the more I am convinced that you have been the worst foreign secretary ever,” he wrote in his letter, issued on officer letter head of Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.

“My concern is that you would also end up being the worst Pakistan ambassador in Washington DC. The reasons are simple. First, you are not made for the delicate profession of diplomacy,” the letter said.

“I can cite many examples, the Ufa Joint Statement and Pakistan humiliating defeat at the Human Rights Council are sufficient to prove my point,” the letter said. “Second and it is more worrisome, your heart is not in the right place.”

The letter carried signatures of the former high commissioner. “I strongly feel that it is in Pakistan’s interest that you should immediately be removed from Washington DC,” he suggested in the letter.

“If not so, you should not be given extension beyond your superannuation on February 27, 2018. May Allah help Pakistan when people like you with weak and dubious credentials are at such important positions,” Abdul Basit ended.

The former high commissioner also sent a copy of the same letter to the Director of the Foreign Secretary’s Office (FSO), Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In July, the government had approved the request of Abdul Basit for a premature retirement from the service, as he was set to retire in April 2018.

Meanwhile, Sohail Mahmood, who is currently awaiting an appointment with India’s new President Ram Nath Kovind to present his credentials, is all set to take charge as Pakistan’s new high commissioner to India. Mahmood will succeed Abdul Basit. Before taking this new assignment, he was Pakistan’s ambassador to Turkey.

What is Abdul Basit going to do different ?
It is not like he changed anyone's mind in India

Need someone who can face the media and has contacts within the media.

A career diplomat won't cut it.... someone like a Hussain Haroon, Mushahid Hussain or Sherry Rehman is needed.

.
The clowns comments here don't even seem to know that Mr. Basit has long gone and the current Indian high commissioner is Mr. Sohail Mahmood. :p:

In all honesty, given the current geopolitical scenario, what can a Pakistani ambassador realistically achieve in Washington right now? The political establishment is heavily pro-India not because of Pakistan but because the US sees India as a counter balance to China in Asia. This naturally makes it more important for US policymakers, and our relations suffer as a consequence.
The geopolitical pivoting going on right now is a natural process that takes place when powers reassess their interests. As it stands, Pakistan is increasingly gaining an understanding with Russia and Iran as well as of course China on how to share power in C. Asia. The fact that Russia is selling weapons to Pakistan too would have been unthinkable a couple of years ago. Yet as India moves closer to the US, the further its relations with Russia drop.
The best an ambassador in the US can do at the moment is to maintain the status quo as long as possible whilst the ambassador in Moscow is the one who needs to up the game and fully utilize declining Russia-India ties. That is where the potential lies.
