yogendra yadav stuck his neck out to claim 45+ when people thought AAP will get 35+. Now he thinks, it'll be 50 to 55 out of 70. His claim, combined with an unprecendented emergency meeting called by BJP in the middle of the elections itself probably indicates what to expect- a complete washout of unprecedented scale for BJP.

BJP is repeating the same old stuff like a broken record.

The Big Fight - Advantage AAP, Show Exit Polls

Thought BJP is the savior of India, don't understand Indian politics.....

Thats the beauty of Indian elections .

National elections are contested on national issues while state elections are voted for on state / local issues.
That's even more confusing, cause in Canada, Conservatives don't care if conservatives win the province, they don't even have conservative parties in some provinces, and the ones that do are not the same party as the federal ones.

What does Modi care if he wins Dehli or not, he's already PM.

Not confusing at all. Unlike Canada, India has parties that exist at State & national level. AAP does not exist at national level.

Yes, Modi does not care, his being the PM does not get impacted by state elections.

Means he's lost the confidence of Delhi. Sometimes people choose different parties at state and national level, but a massive loss would surely indicate that people no longer agree with his vision. This election result is clear- you can hobnob with Obama as much as you want but people want corruption removed, they don't want communal politics. If Modi doesn't change his style to match these expectations, he will start losing voters and be booted out of power.

Nope. It does not mean that. Kejriwal himself campaigned initially on the basis of Modi for PM & himself as CM. There is nothing to suggest that Modi is not popular. Just that he is unable to transfer that to whoever the BJP chooses.

If it's 55 on 70, then it is. If it was closer, say 38 to 40, then I'd agree with you. We just have to wait and watch.

We will have to wait for some survey to come up on whether Modi's popularity has taken a huge hit but unlikely. The freshness of Modi in power has somewhat diminished but by all indications, he remains fairly popular. As you do know, the votes were more for Modi rather than any sudden love for the BJP & it's agenda. He is not on the ballot, difficult to sustain. If your know your history, Karnataka under Ramakrishna Hegde went for state polls after Rajiv Gandhi's stupendous LS win in 1984 and the tables were completely turned on the congress. That was an election almost immediately after, still in RG's honeymoon period. This behaviour is not new, what was extraordinary was the BJP winning states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkand & doing well in J&K just on the basis of Modi, this election is more the norm.

I agree he is popular, but when 5 out of 7 seats go against him (he was the face, bedi was sideshow), it can't be only because AK said Modi for PM and AK for CM. Something more fundamental is driving this. The rise in corruption in Delhi being one point. The feeling that Modi is not srious about it another. There's ghar wapsi, 4 chidern per woman, 10 lakh suit (only 10 lakh as per star wars), the talk about the economy is muted. I don't think RG would have campaigned as heavily as Modi has done in delhi. According to one estimate, this election had the highest expenditure on a state in history. All that publicity couldn't stop this wave, then something very fundamental has changed. if it touches 55, then it's a dizzying washout. Would mean that all that Modi could do is raise the tally from near zero to 15.

Yogendra Yadav was explaining that it is extraordinarily difficult for Modi to transfer his popularity to the state BJP but even more difficult to transfer that to Kiran Bedi. That does seem to have been true. AAP had a spot in Delhi's heart, time has passed since their 49 day exit, people may have been more amenable to try them out again. Modi is in still in his 1st year and going nowhere. He is not the target here.

That is because the other party promised FREE electricity and FREE water and what not. And 40% in India will vote for anyone who hands out doles. Another 20% will vote for any party that can keep BJP out. These have a pathological hatred for BJP. Thats 60% vote. That is the reason for this landslide victory. There is a reason why most corrupt Congress party headed by a family ruled for 60 years. Modi's victory is just an aberration. It will be corrected in 2019.

Moral of the story - India can only dream of coming anywhere close to China.

After the rants of the Sangh Parivar and BJP MLA's - from asking all Hindus to produce a minimum of 4 children, 'Ghar Wapsi' to return all converts back into the Hindu fold, saying that all who don't vote for the BJP are 'haramzadas', that every Indian was a Hindu 1500 years ago and so will be converted back to Hinduism by 2020 and so on has pissed off the people especially since no action was taken against these turds thereby indicating that the BJP seconds these shenanigans.

Unless the Saffron Brigade including the RSS shuts the fuk up, BJP will continue sinking faster than the Titanic. I think it's the end of the road for them unless they start afresh by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Delete button.

Surprise!! I'm a member of the BJP myself!!

But I didn't expect this crap from some of our elected reps . They've gone overboard with the extreme 'Hindutva' crap they're dishing out.

And BJP was once a structured party not a one man show like the Congress where all decisions are taken by the top honcho. It's now becoming like the Congress with Amit Shah taking all decisions without consultations with the party. Like when he parachuted Bedi as CM candidate out of nowhere, which surprised all, creating a lot of heartburn and dissent within the ranks of the BJP's Delhi unit which rebelled. He is now eating humble pie.

And who the heck starts campaigning 15 days before an election? The AAP has been canvassing door to door since the past 6 months! Arrogance and overconfidence has ground the BJP into the dust in Delhi. This should be a wake-up call. In fact BJP's rout in Delhi is a blessing in disguise. A lot of lessons will need to be learnt from this debacle so that it's not repeated in the future.
