A Yale Professor Suggested Mass Suicide for Old People in Japan. What Did He Mean? - The New York Times (archive.is)

.
Japan has a weird history with suicides, from seppuku to kamikaze.

.
Keeping old ppl alive via medical intervention is unnatural. Medicine should be use for pain management and cure, not to keep living dead breathing.

. .
Japanese people gives respect to the old and they are considered wise and sage, unlike in the west where old are put in old homes and they became recluse and hermits.

.
So many talented young Japanese are leaving Japan as they are getting better opportunities abroad.

.
As cold as this is, it will actually help Japan a lot. Young Japanese aren't getting as many opportunities as they deserve thanks to old people not retiring.
it's not old people not retiring that's the issue. it's retired people not dieing...

I should note that I am totally against the idea this processor is trying to express. It is morally bankrupt.

It has nothing to do with respect. The old Japanese are frustrating young Japanese by not retiring until they die, due to this there are few opportunities for young Japanese to progress in their career. Consequently, a lot of young Japanese are moving abroad for better opportunities.
