A US-Vietnam Alliance? Not So Fast

How will the US gov. explain this potential "alliance" to the public? From US ideological perspective, Vietnam is still a communist country. Anytime either the US gov. or the media bashes a commie country, they will be stuck in a dilemma.

To be honest, let us give the Vietnamese their due. They have been effective in defeating foreign expeditionary forces into their territory. In recent history: French, American, Chinese.

Let us not forget their successful intervention in Cambodia, resulting in toppling of Pol Pot and his CCP-backed Khmer Rouge, and establishing a Pro-Viet Nam government to this day led by Hun Sen.

It is foolish and warranted to deny the Viet Namese' military capability. Especially in defensive campaign, and limited offensives.

It's main reason why Vietnam still a poor economy in ASEAN & poor developing country, just better than Cambodia. Coz they love WAR and spent most time & funds on WARs.

After Soviet Union gone, Vietnam also fall down too.

There are limitations and areas of want in Vietnam. Given. But let us be objective and note that they have been placed in a position to defend their own interests.

Very similar to how China was at war with Japanese Empire, then with the Chinese Civil War. Viet nam is not so blessed with man power and natural resources or land mass as China. Whereas China was able to cope with post-war development.

For Viet Nam, they had suffered greatly:

a) Japanese invasion & occupation of French Indochina
b) French-Vietnamese war of independence
c) Vietnam War
d) Sino- Vietnam War
e) Khmer-Vietnam War

Vietnam started late. And i believe that they are now on the right track.

This might be part of viet way of thinking now, from generations to generations they will always remember who shaped them for millenia and coming back to haunt them from time to time, and even if they were also suffering under other foreign powers since the new age, in the end they will only face one direction when they think of their biggest threat for all of enternity. I guess Chinese should be honored to be viet obsession, as much as to blind them to see anything else.
