What's new

A trip to Darra Adam Khel

What about speaking in Urdu in front of the Pakhtuns? I know the great pride Pakhtuns have in their language, & unfortunately I don't know it. That is pretty much my only concern, I don't have any concerns with security.

Kuch nahin hota yara.... everybdy takes pride ib their language........ tu kuon dar raha hai bhai........... speaking urdu infront of pashtun, baluch, sindhi or punjabi isnt a big deal......... I have a billion frnds frm all regions of Pakistan..... so just chillax...............

JUST BE ORIGINAL.

.
I will most probably be visiting Pakistan in December this year, & I asked a very close friend of mine (who's an Afridi) if I could go to Darra with him for a few days. He was very happy to hear that, & he said 'why not'. I do not speak Pakhto, & I was wondering if there was any advice I could get from any Pakhtun members here. I have no doubt about Pakhtun culture & hospitality, & no have no real concern with my safety, I am just working on the details of that trip & I'm really looking forward to it. I have been to Bannu, Pekhawar, Kohat & other cities in KPK before, but I've never been to FATA before. How different is it from KPK? Darra Adam Khel is in Orakzai Agency, how is the situation there in terms of the Shia-Sunni rift there these days, & the general situation?

Best of luck :)

I lived in Landi kotal (kyber agency) for two years and i found it totally different than Rawalpindi. I never seen any women in bazaar and those who you see were fully covered in Burka and you have got plenty shops of weapons and charas in every single corner and some of these peoples were bit arrogant after they find out that i am punjabi and cannot speak pashtu but i made some good freinds as well. I learned some pashtu as well

Make sure you have one local guy with you because you might get into trouble as most of them dont understand urdu and you are also not aware about their culture and traditions.

hota ha mere bhi . Culture of FATA is totally different than culture in all big cities of Pakistan..mere uppor to fire be kiyea gayea tha kyoon k mein ik mountian par chara tha aur neechey kuch ghar they tu un loghoon na samja mein un k ghar k under jhank rha hoon aur fire khool diyea lol

.
speaking pashto or not is not a matter of concern for many pashtuns. After they here why you came they would be more than happy to even care about your language. You can see Hakimullah Mehsud along with his fellas giving interviews in Urdu, Kaafir Khan (Muslim Khan) was also seen plenty of times giving interviews in Urdu.

A few more things to say when you meet people, use them when you greet others:

Za ta saara meena kaom (Good to meet you)
Aya ghwari chi ma sara gada wokri (Thank you for greeting me)

Lol.... :partay:

^ very few peoples has got the knowledge of Urdu in tribal areas of Pakistan and these are the ones who has attended some classes in school or have some knowledge of Arabic
