1.The Eastern Muslims were quite powerful at that period. The Bengal Sultans, ruling first from Pandua and then Gaur, were powerful and prosperous with a peaceful kingdom. The Sultanate of Arakan, which had lasted from 1430 to 1784, was also strong displaying a communal harmony between the Muslims and Buddhists never existing in this nation. These with the Indonesian archipelago, Malay and Southern Philippines were all Muslim.
2.A Caliphate existed in the Philippines and came under immediate assault of the Catholic Spaniards under the zeal of Inquisition. That struggle of the Muslims continued when Spain transferred Philippines to USA. It continues today with more vigor.
3. All the Muslim rulers of SA of the period owed symbolic allegiance to the Caliph, either directly or through the Emperor at Delhi. The most significant aspect was the reading of the Friday Khutba in the name of the Caliph - a practice which had continued during the occupation of the Christian British.
