A reality check with regards to foreign tourists.

Apparently a fruit seller in Pakistan(Abottabad/Mansehra?) first made her recite the Kalima and then proceeded to criticize the way she was dressed because according to him she was showing her body...by the end of the video, you can clearly hear her being shaken.

There was a thread here some time ago about Pakistan being ready for foreign tourists. You can debate that, but in my view, Pakistan is absolutely not ready for solo female travellers.

You cannot really blame the fruit seller here because he knows no better.

Gilgit/Baltistan is not an issue but the route through areas like Kohistan and Chilas definitely is not ready for the influx of jeans wearing females.

There is also that other issue that India faces and although our society is no where as deep in the gutter as the Indians but we know how still there are vultures in our society who prey on the vulnerable.

The government if it is serious, should first take into confidence and educate the communities which can see an influx of Western tourists. The other thing which could be done is focus on the Muslim tourist market.

Pakistan could be a cheap alternative to the likes of Switzerland for Muslim families in the Arab world and South East Asia.

The government should then present clear guidelines on how to dress....like perhaps no jeans and take dupatta.

It would be something if she was in shorts or a mini skirt - which I believe is insensitive to local values - but she is wearing full biker gear (you can see it at the end) . Does he want her to wear an abaya while riding?

The implication is very simple, biker gear looks wrong to these guys, therefore women cannot bike in public.

The local community cant even be educated on polio vaccinations, and you are talking about this. How many Kms above earth are you in orbit?

BEFORE you visit a destination, isn't it YOUR job to do some homework? What was she thinking, she is Alexander on his elephant, hence can gallivant anywhere?

Her being a snow flake or not is not the topic here.

It sure is, she didn't know how to deescalate, and as per you she was "visibly shaken."

Tableeghi jamat has done this damage. You cannot make anyone recite Kalima as per Islamic teaching but these tableeghis teach otherwise. The faith is about sincerity and person's free will. I love Islam and believe it is the truth faith and the only way. But I won't walk up to random man or woman and start preaching them in this naked way. Rather I will show them the true side of the Islam through practices and if they get convinced, I will more than welcome him or her to embrace Islam... but not like this tableeghi jamat style.. no way.

Honestly it wasn't that bad and even though he was firm with his opinions he wasn't hostile. I understand her being shaken but we need to put things in perspective here i.e. the country is new to tourism and this was one chap among tens of millions.
I've seen far, far worse in other countries including her own (Turkey) but that doesn't put me off those countries.

I am sorry if you are illiterate of the country you visit...that shit falls on you no one else.

When going to gora land most of us would read up about it...like when going to Vatican (independent state it is called)...many will read up how to dress to be allowed in the cathedral not just in Vatican but every cathedral will ask you go buy a scarf and cover your bare shoulders....

Many read up and already bring a scarf many don't read and have to buy it from the nearest shop that obviously sells it for more expensive coz he knows you need it...

But not a single soul blames the country or its people for forcing them to buy an expensive shawl for one visit in a cathedral. ...coz they know it was their fault they didn't read about it...
