I came across a Youtube video showcasing Pakistani houses and I've been looking at properties on zameen.com and i've noticed a few things...

1. Why do so many houses have expensive materials like marble, or tile everywhere?
2. Why is the woodwork so elaborate, all the doors have carvings and designs on them?

Is this normal? Is this typical of Pakistani houses? I know it's typical of villas in AJK but i thought that's because it's British pounds being spent by people who didn't have to earn them...lol
Also why are there so many lights?!

Isn't it expensive though? Surely it's cheaper to put down laminate flooring or something like that?

I have been to few cities around Pakistan, not many but few, and I've found that above a certain income bracket, not even that high, most if not all houses will have marble or tiles. Elaborate woodwork has varied applications, most likely it's the bed or cupboards but less widespread with doors. At least that's been my experience.

I've also noticed a sense of a uniform Pakistani design or similarities in taste and a typical Pakistani existence.
The foods are becoming more similar, the Urdu accent also has started to sound very similar, largely among the the educated class, degree and above, especially the women seem to have the same kind of Urdu accent.
Salwar Kameez is already worn in every corner of the country, among every section of the society which is very rare for most countries. Plus, people are travelling more often, there's more video content available online, I'm sure these things are playing a part in creating similar tastes.

People cry in our area of not having money and than suddenly they build a house with marbles tiles etc + the house looks UGLY and they put a big sign saying MASHALLAH and also they don't think about drainage system

500 sq. yard house.
4 bedrooms - all marbles
Drawing/dining/kitchen - tiles
All bathrooms - tiles
Parking space/small sitting space outside - marbles
Stair case - marbles.

Another flat - all marbles except bathrooms which are tiles.

All relatives/friends houses - same marble + tiles ratio.

Only seen once laminate flooring in a friend's cousin's flat once. Man spent a lot of money.

So yeah, marbles/tiles are cheap+cultural

Carvings on doors are old fashioned now and give more of a classic or rural look . Now a days doors are pretty simple.

Anything wooden is much more expensive now thanks to environemntalism and people getting more trendy. Usage of wood has reduced alot from dining tables to chairs to sofas to even beds. Heck, now a days even old style wooden closets/cupboards are not used anymore. Which is good for environment.

Fanoos (Chandliers) are always there in drawing rooms. Bedrooms don't have them. They are just there to show off which are only used when some guests are there. lol

I am against expensive houses. I believe the house should be simple in construction and design etc but with max facilities
