In our study circles in Pakistan, 1947 is greatly debated. Interestingly, first violence was against the Sikhs in Rawalpindi area. Easiest way for MI5 to start anything, since Pindi was the GHQ. Jinnah Sahib and the Muslim League did not come forward to condemn, which they should have, Congress stayed away then incited the Sikh to go for partition of Punjab. Sikh started killing the Muslims. Muslims killing the Sikhs, till the humanity died. Muslims and Sikhs did not have bad relationship before 1947 during the Raj. I don't think Muslims are to blame for first violence nor the Sikhs for 2nd, nor the Hindus for anything. It was just a divide and rule policy which worked for the brits.

This isn't true. The Sikhs were the initiators of the violence in this area. Don't let Sikhs and Hindus launder it onto Muslims or even the British. Please read Ishtiaq Ahmed's book on partition violence in Punjab. He has a pro-Hindu and Sikh bias but even he couldn't deny that they were behind the violence. Please see extracts below:
