A Glimpse of Chinese EVs: the dominant power to drive the world into the future of transportation

Again, pls devide Tesla sales by 3 as the first 2 months' sales are negligible...
And Tesla is just an assembling plant of Chinese/Korean/Japanese batteries and motors and other components. No match to BYD which sold over 70,000 EVs a month using its own batteries, motors, electronic control, chips, screen display, everything. BYD rules!

I think BYD is the only EV company who has this advantage, they are an old player in this sector, they should normally be the leading EV car maker globally . Yeah a great company actually. All the others have to source parts from different companies, which is common in auto industry . BYD is abit special in this regard. Its actually interesting that they are not well known, you will expect them to be a household name by now. In fact they are not even number 1 in China. Even an unknown brand like Wuling hongqiang has higher sales than them.
China has to review the names of some of their brands if they want to one day go global, the wuling hongiang name sounds so weird and cheap.

In 2020 the Tesla Model 3 was #1 selling EV in China. Model Y was not in the top list.

For 2021 the #1 car will be the Chinese Wuling HongGuang which fits more perfectly into the Chinese lifestyle/tastes.

Tesla will have to settle for #2 and #3.

Tesla is doing very well, even in China. They already dominate the rest of the world in this sector, so I'll say their achievements have been quite impressive. China is an added advantage for them.

XPeng Tech Day: What you need to know

Phate Zhang2021-10-24 17:06:16 (GMT+8)
A new generation of flying car that can travel both on the road and in the air, a new energy replenishment system, and a new upcoming model.
XPeng Motors held its annual Tech Day event today at its headquarters in Guangzhou to unveil the company's vision for smart mobility.
This included the company's latest generation of flying car made by its affiliate HT Aero, its plan on improving energy replenishment system, and its vision for autonomous driving.

XPeng Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng unveiled at the event the sixth generation of HT Aero's flying car, a vehicle that can both drive on land like a normal car and fly in the air.

He said the company aims to have the flying car in mass production by 2024, with a price tag expected to be under RMB 1 million ($157,000).

"We never make concept cars or cars just for show, all the exploration is to bring them to mass production and change our smart mobility lives," He said.

He said the latest-generation flying vehicle is built on the HT Aero's more than 15,000 safe test flights over the past eight years, in-house developed technology and multiple-level safety redundancy.
In July, XPeng announced the X2 flying car, but that is not the company's ultimate goal, which is to release a vehicle that can be driven both on land and at low altitude, He said.

To achieve this goal, XPeng is working on the latest technology of propeller blades, and the safety of the vehicle for takeoff, navigation and landing.

Lightweight design is critical to the vehicle, and XPeng is working on a product that uses a large amount of carbon fiber to design a vehicle that can weigh 50 percent of the P7.
XPeng aims to make the joy of flying accessible to anyone who can drive through flight control algorithm assistance, intelligent assisted driving, and steering wheel-independent operation.

Energy replenishment system

In addition to continuing to build charging stations, XPeng hopes to introduce China's first mass-produced 800V high-voltage SiC platform.

Its next-generation X-Power supercharger will support replenishing vehicles with up to 200km of range in 5 minutes and can exceed 600A peak current.

To complement the platform, XPeng also plans to launch a lightweight 480 kW high-voltage supercharger with 670A+ flow capacity, IP67 protection and safety monitoring.

To meet charging needs in more areas, XPeng has also developed technology to provide charging services using stored energy, which can meet the uninterrupted high-power charging needs of 30 vehicles with a single storage.

As of September 30, the company had built 439 XPeng-branded supercharging stations in China.

City NGP feature to launch in first half of next year

XPeng said it is currently conducting road tests for City NGP (Navigation Guided Pilot) and will offer the feature in select cities in the first half of 2022.
City NGP will be one of the features of XPILOT 3.5, allowing highly accurate navigation and assisted driving, uniquely adapted to China's challenging urban road conditions.
At the official launch of XPeng P5 on September 15, the company said the NGP will be upgraded to NGP-L - highway NGP with LiDAR - to enable safer and more capable assisted driving on China's highways and expressways.
By the second half of 2022, XPeng will also launch its self-driving mobility operations service in China.

XPeng currently has mass-producible centimeter-level urban positioning capabilities based on vision, high precision maps, GPS, IMU, and speedometer, the company said.

New model to be unveiled soon

XPeng also announced information about the XPILOT 4.0 system and said its new car will be equipped with the system.

Judging from XPeng's announcement of XPILOT 4.0 hardware information, the new model will feature an 8-megapixel binocular camera, 508 TOPS of computing power and a highly integrated domain controller.
The new model, a new flagship SUV on the same platform as the XPeng P7, could be named the G7 and is expected to debut at next month's Guangzhou Auto Show, several local media outlets said.

By the first half of 2023, the system will enable full-scene assisted driving capabilities.
Earlier this month, an automotive blogger said the car, which is based on XPeng's Edward platform like the P7 sedan, could be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The car's wheelbase is between 3,050-3,100mm, longer than the NIO ES8 and Li Auto's Li ONE. But the car may be less than 5 meters long and maybe slightly shorter than the latter two, according to the blogger.
Behind these plans for XPeng are He's optimistic expectations for China's new energy vehicle market, which he said at today's event is expected to reach 50 percent penetration by 2025.

Not really. BYD makes commercial vehicles too while Tesla semi is vaporware.

Tesla also gets tons of free money from gullible investors who will never see a penny of dividends and fools who put down $10k USD deposits for fake "Fully Self Driving" capabilities that can't even park a car in a controlled garage.

Doesn't matter, you sell more Chinese components (more than 90%) as an assembly plant of CATL, etc...Still no match to BYD which will rule the EV world soon.

The 'fully self driving' they bosting about is a hoax... Still remember those clowns boasting about Tesla's vision camera based dinosaur 'self-driving' technology, which is already a joke compared to our LADAR based tech. They thought LADAR is too expensive but didn't expect we can make LADAR as cheap as cabbage now. Even the budget EVs such as the Xpeng P5, etc. are equipped with multiple LADARs for true self-driving. You can get the model equiped with 2 LADARs for less than 30,000 USD:
Note, hands around the wheel for testing is required by law.

Elon expects the Model Y to be the #1 vehicle sold in the world by revenue in 2022, and #1 overall in 2023.

BYD is expensive and is not as nice as NIO or similar smaller makers. The reason they are not quite as popular is because their designs are not that nice. NIO and XPeng make good looking cars with well designed interior. BYD seems stuck in 2010s design. NIO's battery changing attracts customers. Other EV makers have certain specialties like it could be design, size, self driving, battery changing, user interface. BYD does nothing too well and charges more even though they are a technology leader but then so is NIO.

BYD makes a lot from selling their battery technologies and other things to other manufacturers but to become more successful in cars, they need to improve design.

Look at Hongqi's new EVs. They are only a little bit more than BYD but designs are more interesting and the whole prestige of the brand for Chinese buyers. Of course people would even prefer Hongqi over BYD.

Tesla is doing very well, even in China. They already dominate the rest of the world in this sector, so I'll say their achievements have been quite impressive. China is an added advantage for them.

Tesla manufactures in China too and they are perceived as luxury brand to show off. This will always be a popular thing everywhere even when their quality and technology is lower, people will still consider it a higher luxury product like iPhone even with poorer performance than another phone will have that perception and will always have certain minimum amount of sales just because of this. All they have to do is market and at least keep up if not just stay slightly ahead in overall performance.

4680s are being produced right now at Kato Road with full ramp in ‘22.
In a tiny little pilot plant though...Haha...
The real production will still be Panasonic, LG, CATL, etc. etc, just like the 2170...and that is the future tense...LMAO...

All that matters is Tesla’s massive exponential growth and world dominance.

Meanwhile, BYD is a nobody on the world stage.

Massive exponential growth also for BYD. While Tesla's 'massive exponential growth' is for CATL, Panasonic, and LG, etc, etc...Haha... Can't match to BYD.

Stocks in the new energy vehicle (NEV) industry chain in China's A-share market rose broadly in early trading Monday, with BYD and CATL both rising to new all-time highs.

BYD, which trades in Shenzhen, rose 6 percent to RMB 318 as of press time, surpassing its August 6 high and hitting a new all-time high. The stock is up about 35 percent since September 30.

Power battery giant CATL rose more than 3 percent to RMB 621.76, setting a new all-time high. The stock is up 23 percent since September 30.

China's State Council on Sunday issued an opinion on the country's efforts to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality, saying that by 2060, China's energy use efficiency will reach an internationally advanced level and the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption will reach more than 80 percent.

The document mentioned that China should accelerate the large-scale application of energy storage technology, accelerate the formation of a new power installation development mechanism based on energy storage and grid load adjustment.

This is a policy boon for the power battery giants, as CATL and BYD are the top two battery makers in China, and their batteries can be used for EVs as well as energy storage projects.

Data released earlier this month by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance showed that CATL had 46.79 GWh of batteries installed in China from January to September, ranking first with a 50.8 percent market share.

BYD ranked second with 14.73 GWh of installed power battery capacity in China during the same period, with a 16 percent market share.

For BYD, the company is also rumored to have received a battery order from Tesla.

BYD has secured a 10 GWh order for LFP batteries from Tesla, local media cls.cn said on October 21, citing people close to the Warren Buffett-backed Chinese NEV maker.

EV startup Neta secures 2.9 billion RMB investment from cybersecurity giant

360 is the largest Chinese cybersecurity firm; think of it as a much bigger ESET or Avast. Neta is a brand of Hozon Motors, one of the first Chinese EV startups founded in 2014. Neta is a true EV underdog – despite being underreported, their cars are pretty popular in China. They sold nearly 8 thousand vehicles in September, which is not much less than Nio or Xpeng (both 10 thousand cars).
On the evening of October 18th, 360 issued an announcement stating that it would invest 2.9 billion yuan ($453 million) in Neta with its funds. It is not the first investment of 360 in Neta as in April this year 360 led a series D investment round of 3 billion yuan ($0.5 billion).
Neta is an emerging new energy automobile manufacturing company in China. Its Chinese name is derived from Chinese classical mythological characters. According to a report from China Economic Network, Neta delivered 15,100 vehicles in 2020 and 41,400 new cars from January – September 2021. In September, Neta sales exceeded 7,000 for the first time and finally delivered 7,699 vehicles.
Qihoo 360 is abbreviated as 360, which is a network security company in China. The main business has a 360 browser (similar to Google Chrome), 360 antivirus software (similar to Kaspersky), and the boss is Zhou Hongyi. Zhou Hongyi’s most high-profile remark is that all antivirus software should be free for users to use. Of course, free is not entirely free, and users have criticized 360 through forced software bundling and unclosed advertisements. According to the 360s 2021 semi-annual report, the company’s PC security product market penetration rate was 97.60%, and the average monthly active users remained above 479 million. The security market continued to rank first in China; the PC browser market penetration rate was 86.60%, an average The number of monthly active users reached 425 million; the average monthly active users of mobile security products reached 550 million.
Coming back to this matter, after completing this investment, 360 will hold a 16.5940% stake in Neta in total and will become the second-largest shareholder of Neta Automobile in total. From the timeline, it is inevitable for 360 to become a shareholder of Neta. At the beginning of 2020, 360 participated in Neta’s B round of investment. At that time, Neta’s pre-investment valuation was only 3.5 billion yuan ($550 million). By the time of Neta’s first round of financing, the pre-investment valuation had reached 22 billion ($4.5 billion).
We can see that 360’s investment in Neta has already achieved a generous return. But 360 is not satisfied with obtaining investment income. After all, the future electric car is not only a means of transportation; it is also a mobile computer, a mobile phone, etc., which brings a considerable market imagination.
According to a report by 21st Century Business Herald, 360 also stated that the company’s strategic investment in Neta will take the safety of intelligent connected vehicles as the cornerstone and will combine the company’s accumulation and experience in the fields of network security, smart hardware security, and vehicle networking security with Neta.
They rely on the subsequent in-depth strategic cooperation between the two parties, further in-depth research on the safety of intelligent connected vehicles so that 360 can better provide intelligently connected vehicle safety services for the entire industry’s automobile companies and industry chain partners.
But ideals are ideals, and reality is reality. From the current point of view, Neta’s primary problem to solve is profitability. After all, as of the end of last year, Neta achieved an operating income of 1.297 billion yuan, and its net loss exceeded operating income to 1.321 billion yuan. In the first half of this year, the net loss exceeded 693 million yuan.
