A friendly neighborhood best guarantee for South Korea's national security

Sure it does. North Korea still wants a unified Korea. Who stands in the way way? I give you a hint. Starts with a U. North Korea is not reacting. They had been trying to blackmail by demanding more aid in return stop testing ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons. Since the U.S. refused, they decided to sell their weapons and developing more weapons. Even China is against it right? Otherwise they would have just sympathize and do nothing.

No need to give me any hint. Everybody knows it's Japan that would be the last to want to see a United Korea, Peaceful or by force.

See, the N Korea problem is basically a problem between N Korea and United States.
United States wants regime change by force. And N Korea use Nuclear weapons to prevent that.

Both are stuck in their respective position.

China on the other hand just wants peace and stability so China can carry-on developing.

.
Keeping in mind SK's lack of political sovereignty:

1. Keep pressuring Seoul.

2. Pool efforts with Russia.

3. Develop counter-measures to specifically target the US without endangering SK interests.

4. Enlarge CN-SK FTA and push for CJK FTA. The anti-thesis of the US policy in the region is development.

I think China should re-evaluate its relation with South Korea and North Korea. The South has proven to be unreliable, and while the North can be just as unreliable, its not in a position to damage core interest of China unlike the South. Some may have believed the S.Korean move will force China's hand against the North, I think China should do the exact opposite.

You think China is sit idle? South Korean rock concert, actors and Kimchi drama movie (Korean Bollywood) already feel the pressure from China move...just sit and enjoy on how we gonna entertain you with SK THAAD issue.

Hey check this out coming soon . A new Canadian TV series making fun of Asians --Koreans

KIM'S CONVENIENCE is the funny, heartfelt story of The Kims, a Korean-Canadian family, running a convenience store in downtown Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Kim ('Appa' and 'Umma') immigrated to Toronto in the 80's to set up shop near Regent Park and had two kids, Jung and Janet who are now young adults. However, when Jung was 16, he and Appa had a major falling out involving a physical fight, stolen money and Jung leaving home. Father and son have been estranged since.

The comedy will be filled with stereotypical Korean father with funny accent, a non sexual active Korean son and a typical Korean daughter who only loves white guys.

The series stars Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Appa, Jean Yoon as Umma, Simu Liu as Jung, Andrea Bang as Janet, and Andrew Phung as Kimchee.

China should support the northern Kim to entice him to launch a war to the south backed by China. Good way to test some of China's export weapons.

South Korea presidential office says China 'out-of-place' on THAAD

South Korea's presidential office rebuked on Sunday China's criticism of its decision to deploy an advanced anti-missile defense, urging Beijing to instead play a stronger role against North Korea's provocations on the peninsula.

The statement by President Park Geun-hye's office marked an escalation of diplomatic tensions between South Korea and China, which has sharply criticized Seoul's move to host a Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) unit with the U.S. military.

Park's senior press secretary, Kim Sung-woo, said in the statement recent commentary carried by China's state media was "out of place" in blaming South Korea for raising tension on the Korean peninsula with the move to deploy a THAAD unit.

"Rather than taking issue with our purely defensive action, China should raise issue in a stronger manner with North Korea which is breaking peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and Northeast by conducting four nuclear tests and, just this year, launching more than 10 ballistic missiles," it said.

South Korea and the United States began discussions to deploy a THAAD unit in the South after the North's fourth nuclear test in January and a long-range rocket launch in defiance of U.N. sanctions.

South Korea has said the move is purely to counter growing missile threats from the North and was not intended to target China, but Beijing has protested it would destabilize regional security balance.

On Wednesday, China's People's Daily in an editorial said: "It is impossible for South Korea’s leader not to know America’s strategic plot. (She) is well aware of the real direction of the THAAD anti-missile system."

"(She) has no hesitation about undermining regional stability and flagrantly damaging the security interests of neighboring powers," it said.

North Korea has launched a series of missiles in recent months, the latest on Wednesday when one ballistic missile that flew about 1,000 km (600 miles) landed near Japanese-controlled waters.

No need to go such extreme. China could help the North in warhead miniaturization so they can put them in their artillery and rockets.

If we wanted a regime change in North Korea, it would have happened long before North Korea developed nuclear weapons. In fact, North Korea has been attacking South Korea for many decades.

Like I said before, NK is not in a position to launch any invasion nor use ballistic missile to attack SK. They will use rocket and artillery to destroy Seoul. So THAAD is not meant for NK despite whatever your government said about using the NK threat as a cover. You are talking about the biggest liar in the world, Uncle Sam, here.

No, its designed to deter the U.S. from helping South Korea when you need ports and bases further South Korea and Japan. North Korea made that mistake remember? Even isolated pockets can push them back. North Korea taking over Seoul didn't end the war. You should have known that.o_O

Will you cut the crap? US couldn't topple DPRK during and after the Korean War period. US dared to invade Iraq in 2003 based on lies by telling the world that Saddam is in possession of WMD by forcing EU members to fight the illegal war. After DPRK detonated the first nuclear explosion in 2013 why not assemble the lackeys to invade DPRK immediately? No vague so called evidence this time right? Oh wait wait, China issued a severe warning not to attack DPRK and US obeyed. After the end of the Korean War US didn't dare do shit while North Koreans kept on punishing South Koreans from time to time. DPRK has already tested nukes few times already and kept on testing their missiles. You couldn't do a regime change because the obvious reasons but Iraq, Libya and Syria are more easy targets. Whom are you kidding really with that lousy excuse? The world knows exactly why US couldn't do sh*t to Kim.

Kim's family has raped a lot of Amerio presidents who claim they are not paper cats.
The victim can feel better if they attack other victims in Middle East.

No, you're wrong. Your beloved gov't de facto didn't do anything even they could. Do you ever think about that? Why? United Korea was bad business for US hegemony in East Asia, more 'spoiled and bad boy' NK it's good 'pretext' for US to exist in Korean peninsula/East Asia. South Korea wants to outfit its destroyers with new US missile defenses amid tensions with North Korea

South Korea's Yonhap news agency recently reported that the country may seek to buy Raytheon SM-3 ballistic defense missiles from the US as tensions rise with North Korea and in the broader Pacific region.

The missiles, if acquired, would replace the SM-2 missiles currently fielded by South Korea's Aegis destroyers and improve their range from about 100 miles to more than 300 miles, significantly extending their layers of missile defense.

The move to acquire better missile defenses comes after North Korea launched two "No Dong" intermediate-range ballistic missiles, one of which landed near the Sea of Japan.

The South Korean Navy plans to build three more Sejong the Great-class guided missile destroyers that use the same radar and launch system as the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class BMD guided missile destroyers, the US Naval Institute reports. As the current ships cannot accommodate the SM-3 missiles, the newer ships may be modified for their use.

The SM-3 missiles would leverage the South Korean Navy's powerful radar to accurately and reliably destroy incoming ballistic missiles while they're still in space, and safely distant from targets on the surface.

The Naval Institute also notes that the news of South Korea's SM-3 deliberation was met with immediate and harsh rebuke from a Chinese state-run news agency: “It is unmistakably a strategic misjudgment for Seoul to violate the core interests of its two strong neighbors, at the cost of its own security, and only in the interests of American hegemony.”

The State Department would not confirm the possible foreign military sale, but a single SM-3 missile costs at least $9 million, according to the US Department of Defense Fiscal Year 2015 Budget Request.

Well said. The difference is that in East Asia there is global power to protect regional interests from the incursions by outside actors.

Latin America and Middle East lacked regional power with global superpower capacity. Hence, they have always been easy targets for US regime and its business interests. In the past, even a US fruit company would be able to pull out some revolution, installing blood-thirsty dictators.

US cannot act as independently as it can in the Middle East or Latin America.

Even outside great power inference can slow down, if not entirely stop, the US regime,as Russia has been doing in Syria.

Russia (Mr. Putin) made the US regime lick-clean so many red lines and made him swirl and swerve in Syria so many times so violently that even seasoned belly dancers would be feeling dizzy at the sight of it. And Russia is hardly a regional actor in the Middle East.

Korean Peninsula needs talks, not THAAD
By Lu Yin
China Daily, August 16, 2016

While dividing public opinion in the Republic of Korea and provoking strong opposition from neighboring countries, including China, the recent decision by the ROK to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system on its soil has also antagonized the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Aside from making fierce objections to the move, the DPRK has launched medium and short-term missiles in response to the announcement. Pyongyang is likely to further escalate its military reactions to the deployment of the United States' THAAD anti-ballistic missile system in the ROK, which will further worsen the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The reason openly cited for the deployment of THAAD in the ROK is to defend against the threats from the DPRK. However, such a pretext has essentially exposed the US' rigid policy toward regional security pressures and its passive approach to resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.

It is also a reflection of the US' pursuit of so-called absolute security, even if that means sacrificing the interests of its allies.

Looking at the development of the Korean nuclear issue indicates that the DPRK's nuclear and missile program is first for self-protection and then for use as a bargaining chip with the US. Pyongyang expects to end the decades-long Cold War hostility by persuading Washington to engage in talks. However, the US administration of President Barack Obama has shown no willingness to resolve the DPRK nuclear issue through talks and has instead chosen to exert increasing pressure on Pyongyang.

Aside from imposing sanctions on the DPRK via the United Nations, the Obama administration has also chosen to deepen the US' military cooperation with its Northeast Asian allies, increasing the number of joint drills and accelerating its military deployment in the region. In so doing, the US appears to be actively responding to the "security concerns" from its allies, and is presenting the image of a "responsible superpower" to audiences at home and abroad.

Washington also wants to utilize THAAD deployment to bind the ROK more tightly to the US chariot, and further advance its established "pivot to Asia-Pacific" strategy through stationing its advanced missile-intercepting system on the doorstep of China and Russia.

Deploying THAAD in the ROK will increase rather than ease the complex security issues the ROK faces. It threatens the ROK with more direct military strikes from the DPRK as a retaliatory measure. The deployment will also inevitably make the much weaker DPRK feel a more immediate security threat and then motivate it to develop more conventional and even nuclear weapons to ensure its security. Compared with the US, the ROK is an easier target for military vengeance from the DPRK.

Its deployment of THAAD will also likely lead to political instability within the ROK. The anti-missile system is mainly for the security of US military bases in the ROK, and Seoul will not be under its protective umbrella. The green light the ROK has given to the system is more out of its consideration for a closer alliance with the US. However, the move has sparked objections from many in the ROK.

The decision has also damaged the ROK's relations with neighboring countries. The anti-missile system obviously goes beyond ROK's normal self-defense needs and has thus inevitably caused grave security concerns and strong opposition from neighboring countries such as China and Russia. So, it should come as no surprise if they decide to take corresponding countermeasures.

The standoff between the US and the DPRK is the core issue on the Korean Peninsula. Its settlement will ease ongoing tensions on the peninsula and greatly improve the security situation in Northeast Asia. Only talks can break the stalemate. The vicious circle resulting from escalated military moves and countermeasures will only result in escalated military tensions.

The US should adjust its policies toward the DPRK and create a conciliatory environment for talks instead of further stoking regional tensions by escalating its military confrontation. The deployment of THAAD in the ROK will not only compromise the security of the ROK, it will also sabotage regional security, global strategic stability, and finally its own long-term strategic interests.

Thats what you think. We pushed North Korea to the brink of extinction til China intervened. And since North Korea still wants South Korea, of course we still be there. South Korea can't defend itself against a nuclear country like North Korea.

Don't need to cut the crap. Didn't you stated that U.S. couldn't toppled North Korea because of China's intervention? Why did North Korea need to build nukes now when China is protecting them eh? After all you stated 2013, North Korea detonated a nuke, that is a long time since the Korean War, could easily toppled them over unless they were protected by China. Unless you Chinese decided not to protect them anymore and they decided to pursue nukes.
