Judging from appearances, the United States and Iran are worryingly close to conflict. This weekend, only days after the United States dispatched warships and bombers to the Middle East to deter what it deemed Iranian threats, two Saudi oil tankers and a Norwegian ship were damaged in apparent acts of sabotage in the Persian Gulf.

The dispute between a U.S. administration led by a tough-talking Republican president and an embattled but antagonistic Middle Eastern power has reminded many observers of the run-up to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003 — a move that, in the years since, has been widely condemned as disastrous for all involved.

Even some of the characters in this apparent remake are the same: John Bolton, President Trump’s national security adviser, played a key role in President George W. Bush’s buildup to the Iraq invasion as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security

Irani nationalism is very deep rooted, in case of a conflict Iran will go into a Total War mode. Even if the Irani forces are destroyed by USA it ll be almost impossible to control Iran.

lool. Save me the bs. They will crumble quicklier then cigarrets will go to ashes. They are known for this things historically. Biggest military upsets in history happened in Iran for a reason

Look what happened to Gaddafi when he gave up his nuclear program.

The US state is not a rational actor. For years they have been holding a gun to their own heads and threatening to commit economic suicide to hold the world hostage to their endless borrowing and spending.

They are willing to go down and take the whole world with them, they are like a large-scale suicide bomber.

First, we highly doubt that USA will attack Iran. But if happened, then dear Europe, be prepared for 2 million more refugees.

No one can control any population of any other country than theirs in 21st century. Spirit of patriotism is what makes us.

The Neocons not the US. The Neocon group are sitting on the top of the pyramid of wealth in the US and are fooling the American populace with Fox news and other instruments of propaganda. There are no shortage of minorities who are chasing the incentives to join the US military (pay off your Uni education, subsidised housing, additonal benefits etc).

Sure. I said the US state, which in my mind means whoever is pulling the strings of the US government, whether it is the deep state or otherwise.

I won't blame the American populace. Even though America does claim to be a democracy which means the government represents the people.
