What's new

a beautiful post about north korea

what's wrong with these people? do they think only Americans had and have any brains and so want to blame everything thing on them? do you not know the history of the Korean war and how the DPRK prompted by commie Russia tried to invade the SouthK and hence the war? In fact Truman tried to limit the war and not have it spread to China as well when McArthur wanted to continue marching straight thru NK, and took the drastic action of firing him!

Middle East, Pakistan, Korea...wherever! these guys don't know how to run their own lives, kill each other, whine and scream from help and then blame America for their miseries. And some idiots try to make hay out of this misery by wring this kind of nonsensical so called 'socialistic' threads.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.

That is all.

. . .
I doubt people who think they got it right will be able to maintain their view once they visit north korea. I totally get imperialist bit, but thats how human history always have been, more powerful countries either dominate or decimate less powerful one. Not saying its right, anyway its less of an issue now.

The current problem with north korea is they are ruled by a family and cannot escape easily. If anybody wants to know how the life might be, should read/listen east germany or soviet era life.
@jamahir its not enough to be contrarian, I know the feeling of being different from other and being right, but you have to use same skepticism about north korea that you use when talking about west or regimes you dont like.
Otherwise you are just using another bias. Also please do consider that you are in a priviledged position compared to north koreans, so you have the liberty to love 'beautiful rural simple life', 'life without trappings of modern gadgets'.

. .
Lovely place, almost no electricity, limited water supply and bland poor supply of food. That with complete media suppression, public executions and a military state, what a shithole

.
So, North Korea is socialist ruled under Kim dynasty.

Respect to North Korea. Each country should decide how it wants to be.
Of course each country has the right to determine its course of actions and how it wants to live.

But respect ? That is a laugh. A hearty one, at that.

Whenever respect is demanded and/or given, it is always based upon certain criteria, broad or narrow. Do we respect the Soviet space program, a narrow criteria ? Absolutely. Do we respect the Soviet Union as a society, a broad criteria ? No, we do not. Why not ? The list would be much longer than for the space program. The fact that the Soviet Union collapsed meant that those broad criteria were important then and still important now.

North Korea have a nuclear weapons program. Respect ?

North Koreans, after one generation since the end of the Korean War, are of lower physical stature and even lower overall IQ, than South Koreans. Respect ?

Which 'respect' to grant depends on where one grows up, is it not ?

worst place on earth, period.

in Pyonyang every house has a radio that blasts government propaganda non stop 24/7, and it doesn't have an off switch, you can turn it low, but you cant switch it off.

religion is banned but they're all taught that the Kims descended from heaven. o_O

they put a cap on how much calories one consumes per day/meal

cant move around freely even inside their country, need a permit to travel to another city

cant freely chose a career of their liking, the government decides for everyone

those people have no idea of what's going on in the world, no news, no media, no internet

DPRK = hell on earth, it's like the most twisted social experiment ever, a whole country in a clueless bubble.

one would be better off living in Somalia surrounded by jihadi pirate warlords,

DPRK is like the commie version of ISIS.

Respect for ALL those items. It means the country and people is led by a strong leader who does not care whatever anyone, including his own people, says. Fear is perverted to become 'respect'. That is the mentality of those who cheers for North Korea.

A lot of information about DPRK is false. For example, let's look at your radio claim.

If every house has a radio that is tuned to a particular station 24/7, how do we explain various radio stations in North Korea?
For example,
List of radio stations in North Korea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Everything can be relative. You come from India, and while YOU might hate living in North Korea, I imagine for a certain percentage of very lower class Indians, they might not mind living in North Korea, even if they don't have certain freedoms.

Of course each country has the right to determine its course of actions and how it wants to live.

As you mention, respect can be for different aspects. Maybe there are certain parts of NK I respect & certain parts I don't. Same with USA. I respect USA's contribution to science, I don't respect their imperialisms. In NK's case, I respect their attempts at self-reliance, their refusal to bow down to American imperialism, their willingness to create their own society based on their own beliefs rather than current status quo, etc.

the mandatory government radios that can't be switched off are in Pyongyang, not the whole country and it's not disinfo, it's a corroborated fact and you can read up on them in Andrie Lankov's, as well as other noted scholars and DPRK experts' books as well as see for yourself in some documentaries shot inside the DPRK on youtube.

yeah those from the very low economic classes here might not mind living in Pyongyang, but then Pyongyang is a city of 'elites', the rest of the DPRK behind the iron curtain is in a shambles, they're starving and oppressed under the heavy boot of Kim Jong Un.

What kind of 'imperialism' ? Broad enough to fool the gullible, I suppose.

In NK's case, I respect their attempts at self-reliance,...
This is a nonsense to start. All countries are self reliant.

...their refusal to bow down to American imperialism,...
See first comment about the vague 'imperialism'.

...their willingness to create their own society based on their own beliefs rather than current status quo, etc.
More vagueness and actually confusing. What does the 'current status quo' mean ?

Willingness to create their own society based on their own beliefs ? What country does not do that ?

You are praising North Korea and criticizing US in as general terms as possible, two signs: That you do not know what you are talking about and that you do not have the courage to get into the details where they really matters.

.
@jamahir : Please answer the question somebody asked before - why isn't there a single North Korean here on PDF? Why is it left to you, who has never been to North Korea, to sing its praises? Why isn't anybody from that "beautiful city" of Pyongyang here, explaining its beauty to us?
