‘India and Pak nearing deal on Siachen’

Islamabad: Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid M Kasuri said India and Pakistan were close to reaching an agreement to resolve Siachen issue and suggested a breakthrough on this was expected next month to enable PM Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan.
Kasuri said he would visit New Delhi next month to attend the wedding of the daughter of Mani Shanker Ayer during which he hopes to meet external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee.
‘‘As a foreign minister of Pakistan, I know we are very close to an agreement. I will not go into details. It depends on political will and I hope that the Prime Minister and the (new) foreign minister will show that political will’’, Kasuri said.
The foreign secretaries, who are meeting in Delhi on November 14-15, will work out dates for a formal meeting between the two, Kasuri said.
He further said he would not attend the meeting being called by India on Afghanistan to be held in Delhi on November 18-19 and instead, minister of state for economic affairs Hina Rabbani Khar would attend it. PTI

What a d-u-m-b post.

Indias politically elected legislature will definitly listen to IA whe it comes to military matters, not only India's but anywhere in the world where there is a politicaly elected govt.

Haha, I hear ya.

But this miiiight happen. India and Pakistan are just fighting each other on Kargil because they are there.

There was a time when India believed it could spy on the Karakorum Highway through it. I guess it does not matter now especially in peacetime when it can't attack the highway anyway. So the basic Siachen solution should be lets just stay away from each other.

There should be a small group still placed there as observers. To make sure no side starts to expand as soon as the big forces leave their ground.

.
Reading between the lines I did not see anything new Kasuri said. Solution on siachen has always been close...and it has always been the final leap of faith i.e. political will that was the stumbling block. Nothing has changed or new was revealed.

.
Kasuri and Mushy want their names to be written in history as the ones who solved Kashmir dispute, even if it means compromising Pakistans 59 yrs old stance.

What resolution Kasuri is talking about while Pakistan and India have already resolved the issue in 1989. India wants to pull back its troops from Siachen, as they have suffered huge loses. By withdrawing our forces it would mean a defeat for Pakistan.

But thank God a military dictator is doing it. Had a politician done it, he would have been termed a traitor.

What the BJP actually asked the govt. to do was be more transparent in the dealings with pakistan. If it had been a joint statement instead of kasuri alone talking and if both sides had stated exactly what the "solution" cud be there was no reason for the opposition party to complain.

ACE that is not the problem political parties should advise their government

we had time and again said that siachin issue can be resolved. and i think its on intrests of both the countries to withdraw from siachin.

.
The problem with withdrawal is there is no guarrantee that the other side will not take advantage of the situation and move in their forces. We will lose everything and wud have to sit looking like jackasses. That's why india is pushing for official demarkation of the current positions of the two armies.

Thats what we are also saying all issues can be solved.

But is our terms acceptable to you?

.
Issues can not be solved over acceptance of only one party's terms. so are you ready to accept our terms also ?
