For sale: baby shoes, never worn. is the entirety of what has been described as a six-word novel, making it an extreme example of what is called flash fiction or sudden fiction. Although it is often attributed to Ernest Hemingway, the link to him is unsubstantiated and similarly titled stories predate him.

What's your opinion? Is it a story that leaves a great deal to the reader's imagination concerning why the shoes were unused, or do you feel it not a story at all? What tragedy if any befell the baby, I can't help wondering.

For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

—Ernest Hemingway

The original short short story and the inspiration for this website. In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway’s colleagues bet him that he couldn’t write a complete story in just six words. They paid up. Hemingway is said to have considered it his best work.

for me it is very deep and painful story, if we imagine..

The first thing that popped in my mind was
Baby girl dies after Bilawal's protocol 'denies entry' to Civil Hospital - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

It feels like the parents are selling away their deceased child,s belonging to rid themselves of the painful memories

Maybe they bought them for her a day ago and he/she never even got to wear them

Lack of imagination is what i'd call it.

1st thought came up to my mind was, oh that's painful.
Like she died in an accident before even trying her new shoes on. And second thought was, poverty made parents sell the new pair of shoes of their daughter.

It reminds me a story where a jobless man meet his friend who told him about the new restaurant in town but jobless guy can't visit this place, one day his only son fell ill his wife sell her wedding dress to arrange some money for the medicine and give this money to her husband to bring the medicines for the kid, after a long time jobless man have money in his pocket he suddenly forget about his little son and starts thinking about the new restaurant and went inside and order a juice when he paid the bill (total of his money) he feel very bad about it and very depressed when he comes out of the restaurant he suddenly met the same friend who scarcely ask what he is doing there but refuses to believe he visit this restaurant even he forcibly take him inside and told him you can't have that much money in life so he will pay for him to give the experience of class.

Nothing can be more painful than this to think. Honestly, sometimes seeing these kids make me realize how unthankful I am to Allah.
May Allah protects this Umah and Muslims all around the world. Amen!
