98% of Chinese would reject receiving refugees: online poll

People don't understand it is because you guys don't know our history. Let's me tell you one thing, HK people are known as the King of smuggling, we smuggle stuffs back to China since China had been isolated. Even before 97, HK people already donated a lot of money back to China whenever disasters were happened. Most of our parents or grandparents were from mainland China themselves, back at the old days many HK people sent money back to help their poor relatives. Most of the resentment from the younger generation toward the mainland Chinese are more about the different values they share, and few of them is just losing the sense of superiority since the raising of China.

Good to hear it, we may share the different views on the British Government rules, but I respect your opinion.
HK people care little of politics, more of money. They can live with every ruler as long as they can freely do business. Money is the only thing that matters. Moral least. That is the thing I admire the people of HK most. Not funny at all: my first visit to HK ends in a disaster when I was cheated by a HK shop owner. Man, a lesson for life.

We are off topic though.

First at all, I apologize for the misdeed from our people, since this is intolerable for that to happen to our guests. HK people care money alot, but moral least is kind of overstatement. Nowaday, people are not that apolitical in compared back to 97, since we now have more political liberty. A lot of old people now vote, as well more young people come out to vote. The good is now we have more people pay attention to our politics and the bad is sometime people are too over their head (too emotional). LegCo now becoming more like a show than a place to sort thing out, like throwing stuff and fighting.

Not a big obstacle just a small financial damage. Not all things are bad. I say Moral least because HK people are very business oriented. They are smart and well organized. Public transport is top. Actually HK discovers there is a thing called politics when many fear Chinese communists will take their money their business away after handover.

He had lived in HK for a period of time, and he is not totally wrong. Just today HK people would rather choose to be with China, other than to be independent or be with UK due to the huge benefits we get from China.

I actually went to ISS for brief period.

Not that most people here would believe.

:)

Strange consider most Chinese here said I am a Vietnamese...

Maybe you went to an alternate HongKong which no one been to :omghaha:

You have a positive opinion with the Brits under British rules? I think you amaze me...

For me, I found that the British Government is quite disgusting during their reign in Hong Kong. I mean what they did is takes, and it didn't do much that will benefit the local Hong Kong population, yes, they turn HK into international financial hubs, but they did it because it benefit them to start, with the trade toward Asia and such. They didn't do it because it benefit the Hong Kong people.

And what they do when they leave? Nothing. I mean they could have do a Macau and allow people who want to settle in UK to do so, but then they just give people of Hong Kong something called British National Overseas, which is what they say "Thanks for your money, I squeeze enough in that 99 years, now you go your merry way).

Don't get me wrong, I am not jealous they did not give HKer a British Citizenship, I have British Citizenship because my dad is not Chinese, government who did that did not ring good in my book, imagine one day the United States government say oh your Puerto Rican and American Virgin Islander is a colony and you are not one of us and denied them US citizenship? You will have a riot in your hand....

Anyway, I think the British Rule is a joke. Some might say I have worse view on them then the CPC, If I am not going for the job opportunities in the UK some 10 years ago, I would not register myself as a British Citizens...

Maybe you went to an alternate HongKong which no one been to :omghaha:

I want to know just exactly how stupid were you? A person live in Hong Kong can't even stand your comment and come out and clarify this for you and even go so far and said I WAS RIGHT, if I were you, I will just let it go, but no.....

The Hong Kong I went to is my business, you on the other hand is a Chinese Citizen in Dreamland.

LOL Chinese wannabe. :dance3::omghaha:

Not at all, I have extreme negative view on the colonial British government. Just let's it be that my grandparent and parent were the direct victim of the corrupted government. I just always think the British colonial government was worse than the SAR government.

I think the main problem of HK are very high housing price and lack of mobility of social class for young people. I hardly see anything related to those three protections you mentioned. But we HK people in fact protest a lots for many things.
High housing prices could be resolved but rich HK elites controlling land don't want more public housing. How the hell people can live in a 200 SF closet is unbelievable. No wonder HK birthrates are declining. Hard to raise a kid living in closets.

Mainland didn't make HK poor by "force to mingle with it"; rather it helped HK went through the financial crisis in 1997, and steadily developed to surpass JP and a lot of EU countries who was far ahead of HK in 1997... This kind of help can also be seen in the case of Macau: Your real daddy will always treat you better than some bandit who kidnapped you to be his son!

He's an idiot. China dumped a lot of money in HK and defeated George Soros and his elite cronies in 1998 or HK would have been in deep shit.

Refugees to Australia live on doles, they are rapists and have low IQ.
They should commit suicide, it's simply too shameful for them to live.

That's why I said in general "Pro-China" and "Pro-Independent" people combine will not be even half of people who don't really care...……

People in Hong Kong are quite apolitical, which come from the British upbringing in colonial era, because the British equate "being political" to being trouble, hence the people who grow up during colonial period did not have any sort of political education.
Apolitical population should compose a large majority of any healthy society. A society that is highly political is probably the most problematic and prone to internal conflicts.

In the US, every act is geared toward the next elections and the attached interest groups, not for public benefit. At the moment, a lenient immigration/refugee policy seems better for election prospects.

This is the right approach. The US is super developed country and has moral obligation to receive people from the places that it has a hand for their destabilization.

The US/West is not being good-hearted. They are paying back their debt. And payback is never enough.

Under public pressure and even critics from his close circle, Trump signed an executive order to keep immigrant families together on Wednesday. At the signing ceremony, he said, " I didn’t like the 'sight' or 'feeling' of children separated from their parents." But he also added that his administration would continue the zero-tolerance policy prosecuting people who enter the US illegally.

However, according to multiple US media reports, Trump's order didn't address the issue of resettling the children who have already been separated from their parents.

The US Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that there had been a 203-percent increase in illegal border crossings in March 2018 compared to a year before. In April 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions rolled out the zero-tolerance policy: For a family that tries to enter US illegally, the parents will be detained in prison and face charges, while the children will be kept in separate facilities.

Nearly 2,000 immigrant children were separated from parents during six weeks in April and May, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

With heartbreaking images and audios of immigrant children separated from their parents widely circulated on the Internet, Trump once again has to face public backlash from all over the world.

The biggest threat to his mid-term election?

Trump has been through a series of crises since he took office. But never like this.

His repeated withdrawals from international organizations shocked the world, but for some Americans, he has saved them money. But this time, in addition to his fellow Americans and the United Nations, his family has accused him of "cruelty."

All five US First Ladies have expressed their opposition to Trump's border control measures. Melania, Trump's wife, stated through her spokesperson that she hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform.

The US is known for being a country of immigrants. Trump himself is of German descent, while his wife Melania was born and grew up in East Europe. Still, Trump has raised the stakes for immigrants.

His tough immigration policy foreshadows bigger conflicts on the horizon between US and Latin American countries, especially Mexico. The public backlash may not bring Trump down, but will certainly strengthen his image of "cruelty."

A US more and more "Trump"?

Democracy, freedom, human rights are the words that Trump's "ex" stressed often. But you have never heard any of them from Trump. He repeatedly withdraws from international agreements, has fights with almost every leader in the world, and all his actions lead to one thing: "Benefit." No countries are allowed to benefit from the US, and no countries can refuse to let US extract benefits from them.

After Trump won the election, became the US president and established a series of policies, a populism characterized by an anti-establishment, anti-immigration, anti-free trade sentiment is on the rise. So far, in the Republican primary election, whoever Trump supports will win, whoever Trump rejects will lose. No exception has been found yet.

A US more and more "Trump," without a doubt, will influence China-US relations and the world pattern. As the world faces great changes, we need to be prepared.

That wall looks weak.
They need a Berlin-wall style border.
