910 Terrorists killed, 82 Pakistani Soldiers martyred in Op Zarb-e-Azb so far.

Pakistan on June 15 launched a military operation against militants in the troubled North Waziristan agency of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

According to an ISPR statement, 910 militants have been killed so far in the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan.

Eighty-two soldiers have lost their lives so far since the start of the operation while 269 others have been injured, added the ISPR statement.

Security forces have cleared Miramshah, Mirali, Datta Khel, Degan, Boya areas of North Waziristan which were considered strongholds of terrorists, stated ISPR.

In a major encounter early this morning, 32 militants were killed and three of their hideouts destroyed by army gunship helicopters in the remote area of Bangidar in North Waziristan.

Twenty three explosive laden vehicles and four ammunition dumps were also destroyed.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad to discuss the overall security situation in the country, as well as the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan, Express News reported.

According to Radio Pakistan, they discussed the current political situation and have agreed to resolve the political crisis to safeguard national interest.

Thirty militants have been killed in shelling by gunship helicopters in North Waziristan, Express News reported quoting the ISPR.

Further, nine vehicles and several motorcycles of militants were also destroyed during the shelling.

Eighteen terrorists have been killed in air strikes in Khyber Agency and North Waziristan, Express News reported quoting ISPR.

Further, seven militant hideouts were also destroyed.

The Ministry of Finance on Monday ordered the Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR) to release Rs8 billion to the Ministry of Defence for operation Zarb-e-Azb.

The PA should have done this two years ago. That would have saved a lot of lives that were lost in suicide bombings and roadside IEDs as well as attacks on military installations.

PA is not a ragtag COIN operator. Despite what many of us would 'like' to see, its much harder to establish and maintain a credible COIN strategy in place. The most critical aspect is having actionable intelligence over an extended periods of time.

ISI infiltrated IUs (Special Ops) inside TTP's ranks for years in order to not only guide airstrikes (LGBs require lasing) but also to gather actionable intelligence. It takes a very high level of skill set to train such men who can cope with the stress of working INSIDE a terrorist organization which they know is responsible for a reign of terror and even killing their own comrades. Those men of SSG have been at the heart of driving a knife through TTPs brain.

Im not worried about time frame, but the long lasting results we will see by wiping out their nerve center and their capability to prepare and mount attacks on Pakistan from Pakistan. Denying them that capability will mean that if Afghanistan harbours them, then we can have a diplomatic foot front and do pretty much whatever we want to quell them.

The operation was inevitable. We have seen through various polls that people of the region have overwhelmingly rejected terrorism. War is never easy but sometimes, to bring about peace, war becomes the only option. Over 50,000 Pakistanis have been killed in terrorist attacks. The time had come to go after this common enemy who had caused havoc in the region.

Recently U.S. Navy Adm. Kirby had said, "We want to continue to work with Pakistan to deal with what we believe is a common challenge and a common threat faced by both our countries and by Afghanistan, as well. And that's extremists and the safe haven and the sanctuary that they continue to enjoy in Pakistan, but the Pakistani military has taken action against some of those extremist threats inside their own country. They've conducted operations."

"And it's important to remind everybody that they, too, have taken casualties in that fight, so it's a common threat." He further said, "We don't always see eye-to-eye on how to address it...But what's different today is that we -- we have better vehicles for dialogue and cooperation with the Pakistani military that -- that we continue to enjoy and want to and continue to improve."

Dear CENTCOM. The 'mythical soldiering' everyone attaches to Pakistan Army requires a great deal of resources. Pakistan's annual defense budget is just 1% of Pentagon's annual defense budget, therefore our capabilities are not only limited but shallow in some aspects i.e advanced attack helicopters with credible night (precision) strike capabilities as well as UAVs which are able to loiter longer than 12 hrs (current maximum loiter time of Burraq UAV). Night strikes remain a critical element of a well drafted, well executed COIN strategy for which we simply don't have the assets needed to carry them out in such a frequency which is enough to make a real difference, which is why the need for a full on conventional push into North Waziristan was needed in the first place.
