A majority of Muslims around the world welcome a significant role for Islam in their countries' political life, according to a new poll from the Pew Research Center, but have mixed feelings toward militant religious groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

According to the survey, majorities in Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan and Nigeria would favor changing current laws to allow stoning as a punishment for adultery, hand amputation for theft and death for those who convert from Islam to another religion. About 85% of Pakistani Muslims said they would support a law segregating men and women in the workplace.

Muslims in Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria and Jordan were among the most enthusiastic, with more than three-quarters of poll respondents in those countries reporting positive views of Islam's influence in politics: either that Islam had a large role in politics, and that was a good thing, or that it played a small role, and that was bad.


Turkish Muslims were the most conflicted, with just more than half reporting positive views of Islam's influence in politics. Turkey has struggled in recent years to balance a secular political system with an increasingly fervent Muslim population.

The people who talk of Turkey always will remain secular can see the above poll and their is nothing new in this you can't separate Islam from politics because the leaders which we should have according to Islam are both our Religious leaders and Political leaders at the same time because Islam has told laws through which we have to run governments and as far as segregation's is concerned Islam has encouraged it to avoid trouble or which we call fitna and every Muslim who study and follow Islam supports it if he is not than he needs to study Islam again

i can assure you that women are treated far better in Pakistan or anyother Muslim country for that matter than they are in india.

But this can only be defeated with proper education system for that reason its important Pakistan education budget increases and not military budget while its almost late to change this.

i can assure you that women are treated far better in Pakistan or anyother Muslim country for that matter than they are in india.

In so called "ISLAMIC" republic of Pakistan when women are raped or even sexually assaulted majority of them are too ashamed to report to authority or even to their family just to avoid humiliation in society. In KSA even though the gov is corrupt women are 1000000000000 times safer heck even in America Muslim women are alot more safer then in Pakistan. Pakistan is perhaps one of the worst nation which suffers from female Force prostitution, force marriage, beaten for pity reason and even murdered. I agree maybe in some public places women are treated like VIP but on the other hand are stared like as if they are from another planet "disrespectful to women".
The reason why Pakistan cant change itself because its aim is so pathetically LOW! India this India that! For god sake majority of them are not even Muslim where as we as Muslims must abide by the book of allah and if we were even slightly following it to its true potential the state of our women would be much better then the hell they are living in.

there is no mention of segregation in Koran. Only etiquettes in mixed gatherings such as modesty, which of course nobody would dispute.

Islam today is perceived by a common person in an extremist Wahabi/Talibani/Najdi form. Muslims should stop falling for extremism and better educate themselves.
