85% Indian-Americans support Obama for 2nd term

Washington: The Indian-American community has come out in strong support of US President Barack Obama, who kicked off his re-election campaign with two rallies in Ohio and Virginia, with an overwhelming 85 per cent of them favouring a second term for him.

About 85 per cent of the Indian-Americans support Obama for a second term, according to a latest survey conducted by Lake Research Partners, a DC-based political consultancy firm, with APIAVote. APIA stands for Asian American Pacific Islander.

"President Obama was strongest among Indian-American voters, leading Mitt Romney by a margin of 76 to eight per cent in the poll, and weakest among Filipino Americans, where the vote was 57 per cent to 20 per cent. Among Chinese Americans, it was 68 per cent for Obama, 8 per cent for Romney," said Toby Chaudhuri, veteran strategist and chair of APIAVote.

The result of the survey conducted by Lake Research Partners is similar to that of India in New England, an ethnic Indian-American publication, which in an online survey in February had said that 80 per cent of the Indian-Americans support Obama against Romney.

According to the Lake Research Partners survey, Indian Americans have the highest favourable opinions of Obama as compared to other Asian-Americans.

More than half (51 per cent) have very favourable views on Obama, and 85 per cent overall have favourable views - compared to 34 per cent of Asian-Americans who hold very favourable views.

Indian-Americans are also more negative towards Mitt Romney, with 56 per cent having unfavourable views on him (44 per cent of Asian-Americans have unfavorable views).

No surprise. Asian-Americans have traditionally been more well-disposed towards the Democrats, because the Republicans are still exclusively concerned with the interests of white males. The exceptions tend to be Vietnamese and Filipino Americans who are strongly anti-communist and are mentally frozen in the Cold War.

Nope, gonna vote for Romney, Obama didn't do anything worth while during his service, put the country more in debt bailed out companies and didn't even make sure that the tax payer get something in return. The shovel ready project was a big failure, even he admitted it himself. Couldn't even pass a decent budget. No thanks, we had enough of his one term, time to bring someone new.

You do realize that one of the Republican head chairman is black right?

Yes, that was shameless pandering. The black community was strongly antipathetic towards Steele, just like they were to Condoleeza Rice, because they know that an Uncle Tom/Aunt Jemima will not represent their interests. The GoP should stop insulting the black community with tokens.

Dem's are the most anti China party and Obama has sure stepped up actions against China unlike Bush ( the most WTO cases filed , openly calling you guys manipulators of currency, imposing traffics. etc .). That's one of the several reasons I'm a democrat.

Chinese American are democrats because they like the welfare's Dem provide since they are one of the biggest welfare fraudsters amongst our immigrant population.

You are kidding me! You sound like my friend 'Korean'-Chinese can do no right.

Dems and Reps have similar foreign policy positions; no party is really more pro or anti China. But regardless, it's a little tacky of you to choose candidates based on whether their foreign policies are in India's interests or not. I realize it's difficult for Indians to assimilate, but the first thing you can do to feel and be accepted as "American" is to put the interests of your adopted homeland first.

And I doubt your assertions about Chinese Americans are true, given that the Chinese diaspora tend to dominate where ever they go. IIRC, Chinese-Americans have significantly higher incomes, education levels, than the American average.

Until the past decade, majority of the Chinese diaspora don't even like to go on welfare or unemployment even they are eligible for them. If anything, I would say we are the most honest group in terms of welfare. I should know because I have been dealing with the communities for more than 15 years.

Lol, i can't believe that i am in agreement with JayAtl this time. :coffee:

Yep, even i don't like Romney personally, but for this election Romney FTW.

The GOP is only tough with us verbally, but in action they are in a honeymoon with us. :agree:

Most of us are just average working Joe, why bother going to the poll?

They are actually the same person. Everyone here know it.

Thanks. Most Chinese and other immigrant groups will most likely vote for Obama because the Democrats have better policies toward minorities and immigrants. It's a shame though we don't have that much of a choice nowadays so we vote with the party line.

In the US going to the poll is very important, especially if you're with a minority group. In city and municipal level your one vote count toward your group and the more numbers you have the more funding you'll received on various projects like senior centers, after school cares and municipal jobs etc.
