Mobile 5G rollout gains momentum

But 5G won’t reach scale for years to come. According to our US Mobile Index that tracks the trajectory of 5G, as of January 2021, coverage continues to make gains, reaching 75%. By July 2021, 80% of the US population is expected to have 5G coverage available at home or work, though the performance of 5G networks remains uneven. Expansion of the use of mid-band spectrum is expected to improve urban and suburban coverage. Meanwhile, device penetration gained traction as pre-holiday purchases were activated. It is expected that 12% of mobile devices in use by July 2021 will be 5G enabled.

Our industry specialists expect 5G to hit a tipping point in 2023. That’s because carriers and device manufacturers face the uphill battle of consumer upgrade cycles and deployment challenges as they work to make 5G real, exacerbated by COVID-19.

Nice to have 5G but it will take atleast a decade for vehicles, home appliances, IOT devices, etc... to reach scale with 5G to realize its full benefit... by then we will have a more advanced 6G

I'll believe it when I see it. As of now they can't even fix potholes on the roads so before tackling 5G they should try medieval era road repair.

Have you two even drove on America's roads? Yes, we have alot of roads that need repairs especially where I'm from but that has more to do with the geography, but a majority of roads especially the interstate are very well maintained. Anyways, many in the US market are using sub-6 for their 5g I'm more excited about Verizon's mmWave 5g that is expanding very fast. It's better then the 5g used by at&t and tmobile with faster speeds. It took them a little longer to roll it out ,but I think it will be worth it.

What does 5G have to do with potholes? I googled potholes in China - no hits.
