8 Indian cos in Fortune 500 list

I predict 5 Indian companies remain on the Fortune 500 list next year.

The top two Indian companies are high up on the list (ranked 83rd and 99th).

The last six are vulnerable, especially the bottom three. Knock 20% off their revenue (to match the drop in the Indian Rupee) and they will probably fall off the list.

Eight Indian companies in Fortune 500 list; IOC, Reliance lead pack - The Times of India

"Bharat Petroleum featured at 225th place, followed by Hindustan Petroleum (267), SBI (285), Tata Motors (314), ONGC (357) and Tata Steel (401)."

I think many of the eight Indian companies will fall out of the Fortune 500 list in the next two years after the 20% drop in the Indian Rupee's value has been factored into the calculation.

This is your high water mark (e.g. 8 companies) for years to come.

that is correct on the concept but I cant quantify the no!
the survey is done before the severe drop of the rupees during the last month or so. a further freefall of the rupees can only provide the basics for a drop in total asset values of indian companies which lose weights through currency conversions!

there is no way they can pick up the increase in net asset values by 20% in a year due to increase in sales n reserves unless there is an equivalent equity injection

and in respect of the Tata conglomerate, they have this to worry about:

S&P lowers Tata Power credit rating outlook to 'negative'

Very impressive for Switzerland to be in the list with 15 companies - for such a small country, two months back I was there for few days on a tour and found the Swizz are very hardworking and friendly people, lot can be learnt from them...

Well-done China with 73 on the list...

Do U understand the difference between mainland china and whole China ??
Mainland China doesn't include HK and Macua that is why the difference

Sad that India only has 8 companies for 1.2 billion people while Pakistan has 2 companies for 180 million people

Genius ..
There are ZERO Pakistani companies even in Fortune 1000 forget 500

how much wealth can your country generate??? Please do tell and explain why 600 million of your fellow citizens do not have toilets? What have you people accomplished? 600 million WITHOUT toilets. Thats the population of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and entire Middle East COMBINED.

Am not sure, Mumbai's GDP= $220 Billion, population is 18 Million. So that makes per capita GDP of around $12,000. Not sure how much Shanghai's is.

But as I said, I don't by any means believe that Mumbai is better than Shanghai.

lol,my poor friend, see, you indian population being negative growth.
the Mumba's population in 2008 is 20.262Million,why in 2011 is 18Million?

the braging way of you is not wise.

Actually IT IS about population. With a country that holds 1/7 of the earth's population that can only muster 8 fortune 500 companies speaks volumes about the intellect of the population.

And look you as with your other compatriots CONSTANTLY to compare yourself to a country with a population 1/10 of your nation to make yourself feel better.

If your country after independence did not have all the British industries and only 1 burnt factory and a small population it would be on par with Somalia and Afghanistan if LUCKY. You people would not have acheived what we have.

Pathetic needs to have its definition revamped.

Ok so tell us what you have achieved. Please dont include usual US aid/IMF loans.
