70,000 rally in U.S. to defend labor rights

They are protesting an idealogue Republican Governor who is hell bent on Union busting in the name balancing budget. I am pretty sure no one deprived the government employees rights. It is a fight about Public Sector Unions and their bargaining rights, which the Governor is targeting to eliminate.

Nothing to do with freedom or liberty. It is war of ideas. So far it is a stale-mate.

I thought that protests in a country = protests against the government of that country. I mean, that's what the US says about China. 70,000 people? That's worse than Egypt. I hope the american people wake up!

yes, majority doesn't like systematic exploitation and thats why they are protesting.
If this doesn't pass, those state union workers have a good chance of simply not getting paid at all because American municipalities are going bankrupt. I've said it over a hundred times now. There is an economic storm brewing in the United States. A financial implosion is coming and these fat cat union workers who get paid probably double what the average American does, are part of the problem.

Also, the WI law is not taking away the collective bargaining right of the Union over wage. But over the ballooning benefits. The union can continue to negotiate the rights of wages.

The democracy is all in vain if the government decides to ignore the voices of its people.

You still dont understand what democracy is..
US Government can ignore the voices of its people..but at the end of 4 yrs they will have to go to the same people for their votes..unlike in some countries...

.
IN democratic nations u can rally protest and make a change ,that's why it is called democracy...

They want a change now so they are protesting, but wat will the suppressed people in communist state like north korea can do...can they protest like this...?

Of course he does not. He pretends he does. Whatever 'understanding' he may claim to have, it is pretentious, shallow, and inexperienced. Notice his answer is deliberately vague and is nothing more than a general expression about democracy. It is more applicable to China than it is to the US.

For now, Wisconsin law says that at least one member of the minority party in the State Assembly must be present to vote on any subject. The Democratic lawmakers who left the state to deny the Republican majority that voting day are very much listening to their constituents and they felt that denying the Republicans the full Assembly was an appropriate expression of their solidarity with the people. Tough to say they are 'ignoring' the people. The Governor may be inflexible about certain items the Democrats wanted to negotiate on but in no way does that mean the democratic process is being denied to the people.

R U aware that in democratic Bangladesh these so-called unions are all sponsored by foreign-funded NGO's and every few days the union workers riot and burn down the valuable machinery of the factories?

Sorry mate you're not qualified to criticize the Chinese system, which actually works and enables them to be self-sufficient.

BS...the Chinese CCP will one day be answerable to millions of its people for wasting public money on half-vacant vanity buildings, loss making "my d*&k is bigger" infrastructure and unfair land grabs, with peanuts paid as compensation to the original inhabitants. In Wisconsin, we are talking about Labor wanting more money when they already have decent pay and benefits, and there comes Chinese communist apparatchiks that forced millions into slave labor wages and denied organizing to fight against this misery imposed upon them. If there is anyone on Earth not qualified to comment on fair rights and wages, it is the Chinese CCP and its fans on this forum.

As long as the protest is peaceful I believe every nation including China should allow its people to protest.

The headline would be 70,000 dead in china if it happened there. They are protesting , just like in France and other parts of Europe when their collective bargaining rights were being taken away from unions- through I may add a democratic process or just like when any austerity measures were implemented in EU. You don't see tanks there like in Tiananmen Square do you?

You guys just don't get it. The average American family is 18% poorer today inflation adjusted than they were 35 years ago. The average Chinese family is at least 1,000% richer today than 35 years ago. Which government do you think is doing a better job?? That's why you see 70,000 people in Wisconsin and a total of 5 protestors in Shanghai/Beijing. Is the Beijing government paranoid?? Yes, absolutely. But so are the Americans. Just look at the American defense budget and US incarceration rates will tell you Americans are equally paranoid.
