ISLAMABAD - Completion of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plants CHASNUPP-III and CHASNUPP-IV by 2016, 340 megawatts (MW) respectively, will help meet the target of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) for generating 8,800 MW by the year 2030 via nuclear power reactors. The plants reactors and other facilities are being built and operated by the PAEC with Chinese support. In November 2006, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved an agreement with the PAEC for new nuclear power plants to be built in the country with Chinese assistance. The 35-member board of governors of the IAEA unanimously approved the safeguards agreement for any future nuclear power plants that Pakistan would construct. According to official sources, the allocation of budget for the PAEC for the financial year 2013-14.is estimated at around Rs49,512.186 million "An amount of Rs34.6 billion has been set aside for Chashma nuclear power plants C3 and C4. The total cost of these two projects is Rs190 billion which will be partially funded by a Rs136 billion Chinese loan,” an official said. The government has so far spent 62.4 billion on the mega-project having a 660 MW generation capacity. With an additional spending of 34.6 billion, the government has already completed almost half of the work, the official said. The 300 MW Chashma nuclear power plant-I is a pressurized water reactor that began commercial operation in 2000.It is located at Kundian in Punjab while the 300 MW Chashma Nuclear PowerPlant-II is part of the Chashma Nuclear Power Complex in the north-western region of Thal Doab. Hope the work is going in speed and they finish it in time!
 
THE ONLY SAD PART IS that no real electricity output will come online till 2016! means load shedding will continue till 2016!

anyhow what is more important is the fact that this type of NUCLEAR POWER is not cheap! hence paksitan should move more towards hydel power! and major issue is building KALABAGH DAM & BAHSHA DAM!

very good news.

However,with all IPPs running at full capacity and with dams producing hydel power to their limit; electricity shortage is close to 3000 MW. Demand will increase in another 3 years thus additional 850 MW is not going make a huge difference. We need 5 projects like this one to over come the shortage.

Don’t think load shedding is going to go away any time soon

Sir dont forget that lots of our industry is running on one shift or half if that so more and more generation comes on line bigger the demand will go 3000MW is conservative estimate.I am willing to bet its twice that if not more.We have a long way to before we get there.
 
Meri jan, you can't afford speed in construction of reactor facilities. Things happen at pre-determined pace, any hanky panky in construction work and BAAAAAAAAAM. :D

There are literally THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of subcomponents that go into the assembly of reactor. These are manufactured by THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS of different firms. These are then INTEGRATED in such a manner that delivery of ONE SUBITEM can stop progress of one critical unit.

Nuclear:
You can't know.

Civil:
Too much to explain.

Nope. Very few certified facilities available, and even then no one trusts when it comes to such works. Everything is double and triple checked, and then ...... once again....

680MW by 2016? For a population of over 220 million by that time? Oont kay moonh mai zeera.
