For example I know of a few people who have for example Pakistani wives or husbands and even though have been married for 10-15 years have not been given Indian citizenship. They have to keep renewing their visa again and again. On top of the restrictions like not allowed to move around no working allowed e.t.c.
So even though these people want to return to India and take-up citizenship its very difficult. Ironically a European can stay in India for five years and apply and become an Indian citizen.
