(Islamabad), January 28, 2020

According to a Gallup Pakistan Survey with business owners at the end of the year 2019, 3 in 5 respondents (60%) say they are pessimistic about the direction of the country, but more are hopeful (43%) that the coming year will be better for their business. The survey is the first of a Quarterly Business Confidence Survey that Gallup Pakistan aims to do in Pakistan. Business Confidence Index is an important barometer capturing the sentiments of business community in any country and used across the world by policy makers. The survey was conducted in the last Quarter of 2019 with around 500 businesses across Pakistan.

I guess paying the tax is wrong direction:omghaha:

. .
I'd love to see a survey asking the same people what they consider to be problematic and what they suggest as solutions.

LOL how about reverting back to the corrupt era where you didn't have to pay taxes?

.
I bet there's no in Pakistan, who don't pay taxes except Imran Khan and family.

Was that supposed to be funny? You dont need to be rocket scientist to know that Pakistan has a tax collection issue but i guess that was too much for you to comprehend.

I can understand why people in Pakistan hate to pay taxes - knowing they are doing nothing but filling corrupt pockets.

A few years of good governance and better spending of taxes and people may change their minds.

.
I don’t live in Pakistan. You got me their. But I do pay taxes and follow the law and don’t litter wherever I am sitting, etc. In other words....for those in Pakistan you all brought this on yourselves after collectively doing zilch for 40 years. You didn’t demand good governance, you didn’t demand family planning, you didn’t demand anything other than “govt should give me a job and take care of my needs”. And devils came, took loans from outside...pocketed 10 percent and gave the rest to you all in the form of useless jobs at PIA/PSM/Allah knows where else. Then the loans come due and there’s nothing to pay them back with. And then you all curse and blame the guy who inherits this disaster.

Now take the medicine and give it a few years. It will get better.

everyone here is corrupt until proven innocent by the holy PTI and their inquisition monks .

No shit sherlock. most of the members here do not even live in Pakistan and are unaware of what’s actually going on here, so my post is not directed towards them. However, it doesn’t take rocket science to understand that every business in in the country is in a nose dive. Not to mention the exponentially high inflation since the PTi govt came to power.

If anyone of you actually has a job or a a business in Pakistan, you would know how messed up the economic situation is. Yet, shamelessly the PM keeps making speeches and telling people ke Ghabrana nai hai. What a joke this person his. He infact turned out to be the worst PM yet. Allah hi poochay ga Es se, for playing with the emotions of this poor nation. He basically used all that hatred towards Ganja brothers to come to power when he knew he wouldn’t be able to fulfill his promises. And now he’s telling more lies just to keep that power. For all those who still have faith in this government, all I can say is good luck to you on this road of delusion and denial created by this government. You ll only be disappointed.
Mr. Economist who is well aware of the ground realities, can you please be so kind and inform us the naive and ignorant overseas Pakistanis as to why there is inflation and devaluation. I'm sure you can come up with a better understanding and solution than the incompetent economic team of the incumbent government. Looking forward to learning from you.

60pc businessmen feel things heading in wrong direction: Gallup survey

Listen

ISLAMABAD: A latest Gallup survey has found that the country’s sweeping 60 percent businessmen feel that things are heading in the wrong direction.

The Gallup conducted survey of 433 businessmen belonging to different parts of the country in which a sweeping majority has found that the country is not heading in the right direction.

When asked about direction of the country, there were 60 percent respondents from business community who feel that the country was heading in the wrong direction, while 37 percent considered that the direction was right and 3 percent did not give any reply.

When business owners were asked, “Of the following issues, which issue would you say affects your business the most”? There were 49 percent respondents who stated that the deteriorating economy was affecting their business the most.

There were 14 percent who said uncooperative government has the most significant impact, while 9 percent said it was the unavailability of trustworthy workers. Six percent stated it is the lack of funds, and 5 percent said law and order situation were the major issues impacting their business. Twelve percent respondents did not give any reply to this question.

When asked about hope for the coming years, the hope for the coming year (12 months) was significantly better than direction of the country.

The business owners were asked, “When thinking about your business, please tell whether coming year will be better, worse, or the same for your business?”

More than 2 in 5 (43 percent) respondents were of the opinion that the coming year will be better for their business than the one that had passed. There were 36 percent respondents who stated that the coming year will be worse, while 16 percent stated that it will be the same. Five percent respondents did not reply this question.

When asked about issues affecting the business owners want the government to tackle, they replied that inflation and taxes were the most affecting issues for them.

When business owners were then asked, “Which issue affects your business the most, for which you want a solution from the government? 22 percent respondents said that inflation was the issue they want the government to solve. 19 percent business owners said they were most impacted by taxes, followed by 11 percent who were most concerned with factors impacting imports and exports.

Four percent respondents said they were affected by utility prices, 4 percent were concerned because of corruption, 3 percent because of law and order, 2 percent because of fuel prices, 2 percent due to employment problem and others 24 percent.

I agree, if i was a businessman in Pakistan i will state the same..
see 80% of Pakistan economy is either importers or non taxpayers, they wont be happy..i haven't met a single businessman i know who is happy, their import business has virtually destroyed

we are possibly headed to an over regulated / communist style govt + market chaos of IMF shock-economics.

people are underestimating the devastation of a devalued PKR . i see it everyday
you have a choice of not going to IMF, none forced Pakistan to do so..
look zimbabwae and Venezuela dont have IMF...how have they done
IMF job is to give you money when noone will(very high risk) and than get back their money(with minimum interest rates)..
this is done because group of western countries think countries defaulting is in the interest of noone

did IMF asked PMLN to do state bank lending (check sbp website from 2016 & 2017-18) which is =printing unaccounted notes
if no why than blame IMF

PTI kept on doing the same during the 2018 year but it had the interest rates corrected so it had no choice, this year i dont see any lending..will it keep it up till 2023..who knows... if it use the well tested short term benefit similar low interest high printing combo than will see a very good 2023 and a disaster a repeat in 2024-2025...

dont know why people cant understand this simple maths

i am told that hey you dont know popele are dying of hunger..
this like someone tells the doctor the person who was doing iV drug use is now dying and starts blaming the doctor when he states please dont do IV drugs again..

Pakistan has relapsed 10 times..its same mehbooa (PMLN PPPP) in whom love we end up doing IV heroine(pritning notes and thrwoing down the interest rate to create fiscal space for large infrastructure projects)..

everytime the doctor(IMF) comes in stops heroine..results the poor Pakistan goes into withdrawal(high inflation and poverty) and blames the doctor..when he is fixed(post IMF program) he goes back to same thing

You are not here to judge my comprehension. At least, I understand about those, who won asylum in Australia and Canada during Zardari rule. I as well know, about the dossiers they submit.

It's clear that you have no reply to the point i raised, which is as simple as that.... point out a single Pakistani, who don't pay tax and surcharges. Hence you resort to nonsense.

This is for those suckers, who are doubting gallop survey:
see specially between 14:15 - 16:45 and shutup!
