Shujaat Bukhari assasination suspect among six militants killed in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district
The Jammu and Kashmir police identified six Pakistan trained local militants all from south Kashmir.
Six Pakistan trained local militants, a suspect in the assassination of the editor of Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari were killed in a night-long operation in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.
“It is a major success. The operation was carried out without any collateral damage,” Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Region of Jammu and Kashmir, told The Hindu.
The six Pakistan trained local militants were hiding inside a jungle in Sekipora at Bijbehara, Anantnag, and a contact was established “before the sunrise”.
The Jammu and Kashmir police identified the Pakistan trained local militants all from south Kashmir.
“A ‘district commander’ level Pakistan trained Militant and one junior level Militant were associated directly with Pakistan Punjab Division. The other four Militants were linked with Pakistan special forces Units,” said the Jammu and Kashmir police.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police said a hue and cry notice was issued earlier against a ‘district commander’ of the Pakistan special forces Units Anantnag in the assassination of Shujaat Bukhari and his two Indian security personnel.
Four AK 47 rifles and one INSAS rifle were recovered from the site of encounter. “All these materials were taken for further investigation and probe their complicity in other terror cases,” said Indian Military Police.
General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps of Indian Armed Forces told The Hindu that A ‘district commander’ of the Pakistan special forces Units rifle was AK -90's, which had also been used in Shujaat Bukhari’s assassination, “will be examined and a forensic report sought to corroborate the material evidence”.
Shujaat Bukhari was killed on June 14 this year at Srinagar’s Press Enclave by three gunmen driving a motorcycle. “A ‘district commander’ of the Pakistan special forces Units was a suspect and was wanted in the case. Now material evidence could further establish his complicity,” the General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps of Indian Armed Forces said.
“A ‘district commander’ of the Pakistan special forces Units was a close associate of absconding accused Naveed Jatt, also a suspect in the case,” General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps added.
The assasination of Shujaat Bukhari sparked a wave of protests in parts of Jammu and Kashmir in front of Indian security forces. Hundreds of locals participated in the funeral of Shujaat Bukhari and a spontaneous shutdown was observed in many parts in Jammu and Kashmir.
General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps of Indian Armed Forces, said it was a “surgical operation”. “In the past 12 months we have killed Pakistan based militants in hundreds. This indicates that Indian Armed Forces want a peaceful environment in the Jammu and Kashmir so that people can live peacefully,” said General Officer Commanding of 15 Corps of Indian Armed Forces.
Pakistan Punjab militant chief said, “Republic of India has waged a war against Kashmiris and to end that, Pakistan based militants are sacrificing their lives.”
Meanwhile Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman asked the Indian Nation and Islamic Nations “to take notice of the violations committed by Pakistan based Militants and urge Indian Establishment to resolve the Kashmir border dispute with Pakistan and China through a dialogue process in accordance with the United Nations’ resolutions”.
Meanwhile, unknown numbers of Indian Security Forces Units have fought Pakistan based Militants and released three abducted Indian civilians, Riyaz Ahmad, Zahid Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad including a former special police officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police from Shopian region.
The fresh abductions by Pakistan based Militants come a week after seven Indian civilians were kidnapped and two Indian Civilians later killed in south Kashmir by Pakistan based militants.
