I think the committee who decide these promotions are fully equipped and well aware of the people under discussion. Otherwise, they would be sitting in this forum and commenting on random posts.

I mean, you're free to think whatever you like, promotions in any state institution should be open to public scrutiny, and I believe any forum can make a mistake. Army's board for promotion has committed grave mistakes (Musharraf and Zia) in the past and will continue to do so, they don't have a gospel with them.

Now, about this certain promotion, most men in uniform have a different view of Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor as most militarized civilians on this forum do. He's accredited with a lot of self projection, and under his tenure as the DG ISPR, we saw public funds used on bots, who did not have any other job but to propagate political views of the Military establishment.

He's pissed off a lot of people in the Army too btw, and rightly so.

It is just almost a ceremonial post above the SO-in-C who sits in GHQ. Almost related to signals but may also to the cyber security, ISPR and other such institutions. Though it should be a post of a 3star signals general but how funny that an infantry officer has been appointed instead. Not an important post though, in fact all of the appointments of these generals are to unimportant posts

For leading information technology and Cyber warfare force they should choose someone who has CS background , perhaps someone from corp of engineering.
In future computers are going to play more important role than both strike corps combined.

Well you clearly need to educate yourself. He has not only led ISPR but successfully led operations against militants. He has commanded both armor and infantry brigades and he is winner of gallantry award.

After Asif Ghafoor was elevated to lieutenant general by the Pakistan Army, Romanian music artist Akcent, Adrian Sina, congratulated him on the promotion and could not help but take another dig at at Indian fighter pilot Abhinandan Varthaman by looking forward to sharing "another fantastic cup of tea" with his "friend".

Six major generals were promoted to the rank of lieutenant general, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar.

Those promoted include former DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, Major General Akhtar Nawaz, Major General Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, Major General Salman Fayyaz Ghani, Major General Sarfraz Ali and Major General Muhammad Ali, the military's media wing said.
Lt Gen Ghafoor has amassed his own fan following on social media with #Asifghafoor becoming the top trend on Pakistani Twitter after the news broke.
Last year, the artist sat down for a cup of tea with Ghafoor, who was serving as the head of t he ISPR at the time in Rawalpindi.


After announcing that his band would be playing in Lahore on November 24, 2019, at the Governor House, the singer had shared he would love to have a meet Lt Gen Ghafoor.
The military's spokesperson had responded to his tweet inviting the singer to the office. "A fantastic cup of tea is scheduled in my office," he said.

Akcent posted a video to Twitter on Monday where he is seen sipping a cup of tea and "discovers once again that Pakistani tea is fantastic".

The musician can be seen standing in front of a board of Pakistan's victories including a picture of the captured Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

ISPR was also considered the same until first Asim Bajwa, and then Asif Ghafoor changed the game. This so called ceremonious post could be turned into proper cyber command if Asif Ghafoor pays attention to it. Which I am sure he will.

Army hands out 'gallantry' awards to all officers who get to the positions of Major General. That's nothing special. Secondly, he's a self-glorifying officer, who likes being praised by paid bots on twitter. Which in itself is very unfortunate for the Army as a professional organisation.

Since he was colonel he was directly involved in various military operations. He did brilliant job in all those deployments.

How can Zarvan do that, he doesn’t have direct access to the Pakistan Army. Be realistic, the same could be asked you, prove and argue your statements, with sources otherwise your lines are just baqwas !
