As many as 56 military aircraft have crashed in the last three-and-a-half years — a rate of more than one aircraft a month — defence minister A.K. Antony told the Lok Sabha today.A total of 34 service personnel were killed in these crashes.Of the aircraft, 37 were planes and 19 helicopters, the minister said. tony, however, did not give a breakdown to Parliament. But it was understood that the aircraft were from all the three armed forces and the coast guard. “The major reasons for aircraft accidents in the defence forces are human errors and technical defects,” Antony said.

Let's be objective about these crashes .most of those aircraft were MIG-21,russia stop making the accessories of MIG-21 long time ago.unfortunately ,india is not good at copy the accessories, and MIG-21 is not a good trainer aircraft for rookies,so i won't underrate IA

Well as of this post Indian airforce is, not well trained and equipped with bad toys. If we look at indians air force, the most of their accidents are accord on bad toys but other then that. it's sad.

Don't get me wrong,it's ok using MIG-21 as a developing country,PLA also have a lot of J-7 in service,i mean MIG-21 is very hard to control for the rookie

IAF planning to ground all Mig21 by 2011, I hope this slove the problem

a) and 2011 is away by 17 to 29 months

b) a crash is a crash whether it involves su30 or mig 21 , in both cases a /two pilot(s) got killed

c) a techincal fault is also a human error, someone missed something to check

It is not only the copy issue ... subcontracts were given based on greed and personal contacts ... Indian def minister G. Fernandez is responsible for the death of many young pilots.

He left the ministry in 2004 when BJP led government was dethroned.

any number how many by human error?????

Tell Me How many Migs Crashed?

Ne ways... The Mig-21 are old and using them in war is strictly not advisable even with advanced avionics in bison. Its Supposed to be the "FLYING COFFIN" as nicknamed...

We are Humans. WE have Limitations. We do Make Errors. Every error cant be handled manually.

Every Airforce have its bad periods and so treat this as Indian Air Force's.With the new Projects coming up i am sure that Indian Air Force will be one of the finest in the world......Inshallah!;)

this is a huge loss more than three squadrons:coffee:
