525MW Nandipur power plant starts test run

A gas based power plant is one of the simplest to set up and run, provided regular gas supply is assured. Surely someone really goofed up on a large scale.

Arsalan sb,

There is no way a human can walk from one end to another,

Already small scale robots have been developed which can clean the panels.

Well there is absolutely no reason to sell the Solar plant , strange to hear about repairs lol these things work with no repair for 20 years

Well that is why i did mentioned number of alternate sources like Hydel, Wind, Coal, the Solar also oil and gas!

The comment i make about solar is that these are maintenance intensive. For a 1000 MW plant you need THOUSANDS of acre of land, area that you needs guarding and protection and an area that will need MULTIPLE posts and offices to maintain and control/patrol. MILLIONS of solar panels (yes, MILLIONS), which is a heavy capital investment but more importantly will have continuous running costs in terms of maintenance and operations. Thousands will be required as a cleaning crew alone if the efficiency of the panels is to be maintained. Overall, it will be an administrative challenge to manage a single site spread across some 6-7 thousand acre land (note that every square meter of this land have a panel and therefore is a functioning part of the site). All this for a plant that will give you electricity only in the day time and that too mainly in the summers. Take out the overcast days and you will note why i do not see Solar Energy as the most preferable option. There is thousands of MW potential in Hydel and Wind. While wind may not be giving output 24/7 note that 400-500 mills are required to produce similar 1000 MW energy. You can easily calculate the area they will cover and the crew it will need to operate and maintain. Hydel is a different league altogether. For an agriculture based country like ours, i think the best way to describe Hydel power plants from our perspective is that electricity will be a byproduct. Water is what we will be and need to be building them for.

The main point is, to me, solar is an individual solution. What government needs to do is to attract local manufacturing of the panels, cheaper prices, may be even subsidy so people can individually covert there homes to this clean energy source and thus take the load off the national grid. A huge role can be played by installing two way meters by WAPDA through which a consumer can also act as a producer and if there home is producing surplus energy via Solar Panels in the afternoons, that energy is sold to the national grid via these meters (that is how it is in MANY countries and it will give a huge intensive to general public to shift to solar). While i write these long posts against Solar power plants, it will be worthy to mention that i have 16 panels installed at my home and my whole house including air conditioners are on Solar now. :) That is what more and more people need to do and it will go a LONG way in solving our energy problems as well as producing enough clean energy for individual use. A national level, other options from a long list need to be considered.
solar is good options for homes to add in in grids but thats it.
we need to focus on hydro and thar coal, we such a tremendous opportunity everything else comes down the list

solar on large scale require alot of expertise, better we wait till it gets cheaper
wind is ok

Subject: Appeal to government for a future of small local industry in Pakistan

I am belong to small manufacturing company in Pakistan
which produce the products as below..

1 - Solar Pure sine wave UPS / Inverter power reange 500VA to 8KVA
2 - MPPT Solar Charger
3 - Power Line Conditioner 1KVA to 27kva
4 - Pure sine wave UPS / Inverter power range 500VA to 8KVA

Kindly stop the import or increase the duty like applied cars &
please which range can be produce in Pakistan

I am Please Appeal To government of this point mentioned as below.

“We want to support local industry by ensuring that they get imported raw materials
at zero rated or reduced duty so that we assist to reduce production costs.

”however,
noted that there was a need for government to protect the local manufacturing
industry — still suffering from the effects of hyperinflation — from stiff competition
until they are strong enough to compete internationally.

The measures come at a time
when local manufacturers have lobbied government for protection through prohibitive import
taxes and a regulatory framework that discourages importation of locally-available products.

Nationalism:First argument for protection has been that nationalistic feeling or patriotism
requires that people of a country should buy products of their domestic industries rather than
foreign products.

I would like to appealing people like , All segment of the Market 1st consider
to buy Pakistan's goods instead of imported foreign products.

that we should protect our indigenous industries and imposes barriers on imports of foreign
goods or provide subsidies to our industries.

An important argument
for protection is that it will lead to increase in domestic employment or at least preserves
present domestic employment.

It is often believed that imports of goods from abroad reduce
domestic employment.

Therefore, if instead of imports we produce those goods at home, employment
in the country will increase.

Thanks & Regards

Love Pakistan Built Pakistan

lmao ,, The great fking nandipur ..... over 1 Billion $$$$$ for fking 500 install capacity .............. LOL The Best PML-N engineering..............

It is not PMLN project. It is Musharraf project in 2007 which was abandoned during the ruling of Zardari. Then PMLN tried to revive Nandipur projects for few years until PMLN got alternative options to invest; energy sector [wind, solar, dam].

I assumed PMLN gave up on Nandipur projects after the report was revealed that the expenditure for the maintenance is quite high. Then again, PMLN got same response on metro projects but guess what? Metro projects was successful so i am gonna give benefit of doubt to PMLN in Nandipur projects.

That being said, Khala baag dam could have solved all the problems Pakistan is facing today. Ironically, it was PMLN's project which was rejected by the opposite parties including certain political leaders that remain integral part of PTI now.

# PMLN should have tried harder on Khaala baag dam to keep opposition parties at bay.

Allah ap ka balha kra,,

that is what i have been saying for years now. :(

I am not the right person to make an observation on financial matters. So I'm attaching reports relevant to Quaid-e-Azam Solar park. If you can tag some expert who can decode these documents for us would be really appreciable. Thank you.
Links open ni ho rahya!! :(
What are these about?

I am not an economist either. However we are all aware now how Gov. have deemed running the plant not suitable and is going to sale at about 40% of the actual cost. Another case of gross incompetence and corruption!!

BS
Pml n had feasibility of 10 hydro projects in hand . and it did nothing kalabagh is excuse.

Even munda dam cost less than nandipur. It was stopped citing lack of funds

I didn't get the notification for this reply either. Maybe some server issue @WebMaster
The plant is producing power just fine seems like cost escalations are due to poor management and corruption (God knows best) Anyways I still hold that it has nothing to do with the scale of this project.

A facility occupying THOUSANDS of acres of land that needs THOUSANDS of people that are required for maintenance and operational works is bound to become a management catastrophe in our country. That is why i argue that Solar should be pitched as an individual level solutions and for national level, more feasible solutions should be followed specially considering the potential they have in our country.

If anyone was expecting this government to manage a facility spreading over THOUSANDS of acres with each sq. foot of it housing the the power generating panel was making a mistake. This is Pakistan, yahan har panel pa aik bnda and har bndy pa aik manager lagao gy tu koi kaam krain gy :P :D
