50 years of Independence: Once basket case, Bangladesh now marches ahead of Pakistan

You are unable to see the forest for the trees. You are amazed by a few fancy projects financed from abroad and built by foreign companies. Better you take a deep and long term look at things you say development.
Their is no magic in development, it needs a gritty route. I have been to the factories in china , away from the glitzy cities. No shortcuts. People have to work all sorts of jobs and generate employment. This is the strength of BD that their is no large scale foreign labor in BD , the local labor is doing most of the work.
In my line of work, BD is one of the customers and the feedback is positive. Just focused on work , no unnecessary nonsense.

.
Happy to see BD moving forward.
Pakistan has been set back by almost 20 years due to the WOT/Civil War/Zardari/Nawaz conglomerate. We're playing catch up at this moment.

I still think Bangladesh is a basket case. This joy of getting a head is just momentary, the fact is Bangladesh can not be compared with both India or Pakistan. Its a small country with huge population. And no you can't turn it into Singapore. Good job for filling the hole of market with selling cheap garments but the truth is this, its just stops there.

Lets see what happens in the next 50 years.

. . .
Slaves has higher per capita GDP compared to the master? Is that what you are thinking? Please carry on whatever makes you happy!
Economist call it bubble economy, People are using bongs as cheap labors but due to Covid cheap labors would be available at their own country due to job loss of millions so let see after 2 to three years....

Enjoy higher per capita income...lols

A man saw another man searching for something under a street light at night. He asked him what he had lost and he answered my phone fell and i am unable to locate it. So this guy started helping him to find the phone but was unable to find it. So he asked the guy where exactly do you think you have dropped it and the guy pointed towards a dark part of the street. So he asked him why are you looking here and the guy answered because their is light here and no light their.
The convenient is not always the truth.

Bangladesh is going to be 25th largest economy by 2035 and Pakistan 38th. Bangladesh already has a higher per capita gdp than India.:drag:

Like I didn't knew that. Projection are what? Just projections.

The real world doesn't really act that way e.g; corona. There are so many possibilities. And just like it was projected Bangladesh to be a basket case which it managed to get out of in last 20 years, it can turn back into a Basket case if things work out for other countries (like Pakistan and India). Time isn't stationary, enjoy the glory days while they last. The fact still remain you are small country with huge population, and you are definitely not turning into Singapore levels of success.

See any articles by the economist , bbc or the American media. They are invariably anti Bangladesh or India. The 71 war had the Americans and by extension the British against India and Bangladesh and these guys have long memories.
The British are still not over being kicked out by hindu India. Their anti India tilt is so pronounced that Indira Gandhi banned the bbc in the 70s for a few years.
The Americans dont have this historical baggage but their media follows the governmental line too easily incase of foreign affairs. Not only here but all over the world.
Lets make up our own minds rather than look for validation from the west.

I agree.

I've been to factories in China too, and I'm glad Bangladesh is following the same path.

It may be assembling 99 cent items or putting together garbage plastic disposable tchotchke's/souvenirs for tourist traps in all global destinations, a job is a job.

At the end of the day, it puts food on the table for the family, a roof over your head (even maybe a tin roof) and to some, a better education for the kids. A stepping stone on the way up. Not ideal, mind you, but SOMETHING. Many of my friends are providers of such jobs, which they feel are life-changing opportunities for the aam-aadmi/aurat of Bangladesh.

IMHO - changing lives of the aam-aadmi/aurat is a better/quicker way to uplift a country than by providing the educated middle class with back-office jobs. Both have their benefits, but you can't have a weak foundation with a gorgeous building. Doesn't work.

There are millions and millions of people like this all over our subcontinent with needs of good jobs, and the least they deserve is something like this. Their kids one day will educate themselves out of this.

I also agree Pakistanis have had less than stellar luck with the hand they've been dealt. They deserved better and Insha Allah they will get past this as well.

Lol projections gives idea where things are heading. So far it’s good for Bangladesh but not rosy for Pakistan.

A developed Bangladesh is not bad news for Pakistan.

Bangladesh could be as big an export destination for Pakistan as it is currently for India (some $25 Billion yearly if you count unofficial trade and smuggling). Heck, even $15 Billion would be nothing to sneeze at for most countries.

Turkey- Bangladesh trade stands at $1 Billion yearly, and their FM was just in Dhaka, I predict it will grow to at least $5 Billion in less than 5 years.

Already Bangladesh buys quite a lot of Pakistani cotton. They could buy produce (food products like fruit) as well.

Most people don't think things through before commenting.
