50% Indians condemn Modi’s Pakistan policies: Pew survey

I just lost fifteen minutes worth of carefully argued reply, and am too fed up to re-do it right away.

But, very briefly, without conceding a single point that you have erroneously made, I hope we will not be at each other's throat. I hope, as I have always hoped, and as I have always advocated, that there will be peace.

I stand by the core message my post was supposed to give. Both countries are wrong. There is nothing erroneous in that.

As much as Indians love to play the victim card, in this game of cross-border "nasties", you are equally at fault and have even beaten us hands down in the last decade or so.

Want to hear PoV of an average Pakistani? I tend to agree with Areesh, despite having more reasons to hate you (hey few years back there was a bomb blast few hundred meters from my house and I know how it feels), in real life we go along with Indians just fine (mostly North Indians). Have worked with them, have lived with them, have studied with them.

There is a hope for peace, keep Kashmir quiet for a while, stop using Afghanistan, send fanatics to take the back seat and stop this aggressive diplomatic game against Pakistan from sports to bilateral relations vis-a-vis other countries.

Yes I know you have your demands as well but we can find a compromise... something that both our countries do not like but can live with.

And at some day (hopefully in my lifetime), there will be peace.... ah sweet dreams!

Indians are so hateful warmongers that they have "scholars" from Harvard who are fine with death of 100 million Indians.

Indians are so spiteful that they vote someone like modi into power even though same individual was banned from USA for his role against minorities.

Indians are so war mongers that they have jokers like Arnob Goswami as editor in chief of a leading TV channels.

Indians are so warmongering fools that majority of them want a war with Pakistan for their shortcoming in a territory that they are forcefully occupying.

Indians are so blinded by hate and extremism that have state governments busy checking meat in the biryani.

I don't know what information you have for your claim about Pakistan. But Pakistanis should have nothing but hate for India. Not having hate for India is only illogical and senseless.

Indian voters are working for this nation.
If a more talented administrator comes in future ,we will elected him.
Modi is elected because of his good administration.
Our choice is none of your concern nor we care about the feelings of our neighbouring nations.

50% Indians condemn Modi’s Pakistan policies: Pew survey
19 MINS AGO BY WEB DESK

Nearly half of people across the border do not approve of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies concerning Pakistan, according to a Pew survey published recently.

The survey aims to shed light on what Indians think about their country, their government and potential for the future.

Unfavourable view of Pakistan

Although 73pc of respondents appear to have “uniformly negative” view of Pakistan, around 55pc of Indians polled, go a step further with a ‘very unfavourable’ opinion towards Pakistan.

The Pew survey says negative Indian sentiment towards Pakistan has risen 9 points since 2015.

The second ‘least popular’ country appears to be China, with 36pc of respondents holding an ‘unfavourable’ opinion of the People’s Republic.

Disapproval of Modi’s Pakistan policies

About half of Indians, surveyed take a disapproving stance on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Pakistan policies.

22pc of respondents, however, approve of his handling of Pak-India ties.

Support for increase in defence spending

More than 60pc of respondents think India should continue increasing defence expenditure, 20pc want to keep it at current levels, whereas just 6pc believe it should be decreased.

“Notably, Indians who see China’s growing military power as a very serious problem are more likely than those who see China’s growing military power as a less serious threat to favour increased military spending,” the Pew report said.

Around 62pc of respondents believe that ‘overwhelming military force’ is the best way to defeat terrorism, whereas only 21pc feel that relying on force creates hatred and more terrorism.

China greatest threat to India’s economy

About 31pc of those surveyed had a favourable opinion of India’s emerging Asian rival, compared to 36pc who had an unfavourable opinion. Positive views towards China have dropped 10 percentage points compared to the previous year.

China’s growing military power is a problem for 69pc of respondents, 46pc of whom believe it is a very serious issue.

Beijing’s ties with Islamabad are also a serious matter of concern for nearly half of all respondents. Another 21pc see Pak-China friendship as a ‘somewhat serious challenge’.

China’s economic impact on India is a ‘serious problem’ for about seven-in-ten of those surveyed, which include 45pc who believe it is ‘very serious’.

“Notably, with regard to problems posed by China, Bharatiya Janata Party adherents are more intensely worried than Congress backers,” the survey said.

IS, climate change among Indians’ top worries

Despite Indians’ ‘serious concerns’ about China and Pakistan, climate change and the militant Islamic State (IS) group are at the top of a list of international threats named by over half of all respondents.

“Few Indians (6pc) dismiss IS outright as a threat, while 13pc see it as a minor challenge for their country and more than twice that number make no judgement,” Pew said.

Also on the list are cyber attacks from other countries, Iraqi and Syrian refugees, tensions with Russia and growing US influence.

Research methodology

The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with about 2,464 people in the Union Territory of Delhi and in 15 of the 17 most populous states, Kerala and Assam excluded. The research focuses on answering three main questions ─ How India is doing, how Modi is performing, and how Indians see their place in the world.

What good is Modi's 56-inch chest if he doesn't have the courage to face up to Pakistan and China?

Wish things were that simple. India needs to progress despite fingering from psuedo intellectuals of India and Pakistan state sponsered terrorism in Kashmir.

The difference is that Indians are not so jobless that they sit and count the reasons.
.

There might not be many jobless Indians right now, but with millions of Indians coming out a colleges which provide poor quality education and worthless degrees, the rabid bigotry, hatred and vitriol which hold a prominent place in the minds of the Indian public will snowball into something more than just rhetoric.

Gave full power to cheif of staff in army not to defence minister that only india can come super power too many crib story and corruption among ministers

A huge number of Indians didn't approved Modi's visit to Pakistan and how he handled Pathankot attack, no wonder the numbers are too high.

Either way, it doesn't look good for Modi-ji.
Continue attempts at peace along with this 'isolation' BS which still hasn't worked and you lose the armchair general (~100 million in India?) vote.
Escalate and go to war and you lose your 'business-friendly' image.

Modi needs to step up or India will have some bald Swami in saffron with red paint smeared all over his face become PM.

Modis another fraud that thumped his chest but did nothing. He ire likes to talk but his actions are quiet. I'm sure the chai wala has realised butchering innocent people is different than taking on another countries armed forces.
